SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT
 
 
GENERAL
Stewards approved the following overweights:
Race 7. C. Whitely (TOP SPY) 54kg +0.5kg
Race 7. L. Cassidy (CLUEDO) 54kg +1kg
Race 10. M. Butler (CONFINED THOUGHTS) 54kg +1kg
 
Following the running of race 2 Mark Du Plessis has been stood down by the club doctor for the remainder of his rides.
 
Race 1: BUTLER MCDERMOTT LAWYERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Colts
& Geldings Maiden H 1000 metres
 
CONNELLY- Raced wide throughout. Bumped with RIDEAU over the concluding stages.
 
NEARA REWARD-Jockey B Thompson reported that the gelding was under pressure early and was disappointing. Trainer R Heathcote advised stewards that in light of todays performance the gelding would now be sent for a spell.Wide throughout.
 
RIDEAU- Bumped with CONNELLY over the concluding stages.
 
ENTERPRISE LEGEND- Slow to begin. Approaching the 400m raced in restricted room to the inside of the heels of NEARA REWARD.Jockey J Bayliss reported that he was disappointed with the horses performance.  Post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Stable representative for the L. Freedman stable, G. Robson indicated that they were disappointed with the performance and would inform Stewards in the coming days anything that may come to light that may have impacted the gelding’s performance.
 
OSTERBERG - Lost the Off Hind plate in running.
 
PABALLO- Began Awkwardly and lost ground.
 
SUPER DUCK - Jockey N Fazackerley reported that the gelding over raced in the early stages. Wide throughout. Held up rounding the home turn and until the 200m.
 
PANTHER POWER- Over-raced in the early stages.
 
Race 2: LIEBKE BUILDERS QTIS Three-Year-Old Fillies Maiden
Handicap 1000 metres
 
ASHILLA- Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
BLOOMIN' RIPPER- Wide throughout. Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.
 
REMANDED- Held up for clear running approaching the home turn.
 
HONOUR MISSION- Buffeted shortly after the start and steadied from heels approaching the 900m. Jockey Tiffany Brooker MINK CONDITION was asked to exercise more care. Wide throughout.
 
IN BARCELONA- J Bayliss reported that his mount hung out for majority of the event putting him at a disadvantage.
 
GRANDCOEUR- Slow to begin.
 
DOLLY DISCO- Began awkwardly and lost ground.
 
Race 3: ACCESS INSULATION SUNSHINE COAST QTIS Two-Year-Old
Maiden Plate 1000 metres
 
CHAKRA BOY- Began awkwardly and lost ground. J Stanley reported that his mount raced greenly throughout and hung out from the 600m.
 
DASHING HOPE- Raced wide. Jockey N Berriman reported that DASHING HOPE, was obliged to work hard in the early stages to get outside the lead, resulting in the horse weakening in the home straight.
 
HEARTS ARE RACING- Began awkwardly and lost ground. Over-raced in the middle stages. Laid out in the home straight.
 
HERMANITA- Raced wide throughout.
 
SWEET CONFESSIONS- Bumped and forced inwards by DASHING HOPE at the 700m.
 
TYPHOON TIP- Slow to begin. Raced greenly under pressure in the home straight.
 
BRUSQUE- Hampered shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
 
Race 4: HIGGINS COATINGS Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
 
WHISKEY AND BEER- Wide throughout.
 
CALDANTE – Steadied when the pace slackened near the 800m.
 
FREDDIE- Began awkwardly and shifted in.
 
RANGATIRA- Wide throughout.
 
POWERALONG- Hampered at the start. Shifted wider approaching the 700m to avoid the heels of JESTER STATEMENT which blundered.
 
JANE HIS WIFE- Held up rounding the home turn.
 
NINE CARATS- Wide throughout.
 
BLUE MERLE- Approaching the 700m steadied and shifted wider on the track to avoid POWERALONG, raced wide from this point onwards.
 
NAREE- Over-raced in the early stages.
 
CHANCE WITH WOLVES- When the pace slackened past the 800m over-raced at heels and lost ground. Held up rounding the home turn, before shifting out abruptly in an attempt to obtain clear running at the 400m. Continued to be held up and placed on heels until approaching the 200m. Apprentice C. Waddell was advised to ride with more care in similar circumstances.
 
JESTER STATEMENT- Began awkwardly. Post race Vet examination revealed no abnormalities. Near the 1200m raced in restricted room lost ground and became un-balanced. Shifted wider passing the 800m to avoid the heels of CHANCE WITH WOLVES. Approaching the 700m laid in clipping the heels of CHANCE WITH WOLVES, blundered badly and lost significant ground.
 
ON THE MANTLE- Began awkwardly. Approaching the 700m, was obliged to check significantly off the heels of JESTER STATEMENT. A post-race veterinary examination revealed swelling in the offside knee. Trainer Mr G. Hardy was advised that ON THE MANTLE will require a veterinary clearance prior to racing again.
 
 
 
Race 5: PARKLANDS TAVERN Maiden Handicap 1400 metres
Retrospective to race 5 track downgraded to a Heavy 8 due to continuing rain.
 
The start of this event was delayed due to HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY requiring farrier attention behind the barriers.
 
HOW YA BEEN ANYWAY- Cast the off fore plate in the preliminary and required farrier attention on arrival at the barriers. Began awkwardly. Raced wide throughout.
 
ORBIT- Began awkwardly. Raced wide from the 700m.
 
THE WELLIAN- Taylor Marshall replaced by Angela Jones, due to transport difficulties. Slow to begin. Over-raced in the early stages when restrained to obtain cover.
 
SEVENTIES HIT- Jockey J. Huxtable reported that his mount laid in throughout.
 
TAUPO TIGER- Began awkwardly, was bumped and became unbalanced.  Raced wide throughout. Jockey M Hellyer reported that his mount hung out from the 500m onwards.
 
NICE WATER- Bumped on jumping. Obliged to alter course to obtain clear running approaching the 200m. Shifted out under pressure in the concluding stages.
 
WHIZ BY- Late scratching on veterinary advice @12:01pm. Trainer Gary Duncan was advised that the horse would require a Vet Certificate prior to its next start.
 
I AM REAL- Bumped on jumping. Jockey D. Thornton reported that his mount did not handle the rain affected surface.
 
SET BEAT- Began awkwardly and was bumped.
 
 
Race 6: TAB SACRED ELIXIR QTIS Two-Year-Old Handicap1400 metres
 
RINGER'S REWARD- Eased and held up for cleared running rounding the home turn.
 
PURVEYOR- Raced wide throughout. When struck with the whip at the 100m shifted out abruptly and lost ground.
 
HYDE PARK- Began awkwardly.
 
FREEMAN- Bumped by MISSILE AWAY after passing the 100m becoming unbalanced as a result.
 
SHE MINE- Over-racing early.
 
ENCODER- Inconvenienced when bumped by FREEMAN over the concluding stages.
 
MISSILE AWAY- Slow to begin. Shifted out under pressure when passing the 200m before shying out abruptly making contact with FREEMAN.
 
CRIMSON BEAUTY- Bumped shortly after start.
 
Race 7: DOUBLE R GROUP BENCHMARK 62 Handicap 1800 metres
 
Start was delayed when KAIBERRY reared and became cast in the barriers and was declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 2:48pm.
 
Prior to declaration of correct weight, Stewards declared that all bets on KAIBERRY be refunded with the following deductions:
 
1st GULF OF SAROS 9c win, 10c place
2nd EARN OUT 10c place
3rd LEORED 10c place
 
Trainer Mr B. Laming was advised that KAIBERRY will require a further barrier certificate prior to racing again.
 
MASTER MARKO (NZ)- Raced wide throughout.
 
YANGARI- Near the 500m checked from the heels of the weakening COLLECTION POINT and lost significant ground. Continued to be held up for clear running until leaving the 400m.
 
CHOIR BOY- Slow to begin.
 
GULF OF SAROS- Stewards questioned both Jockey Ben Thompson and trainer Trevor Miller regarding the seemingly improved performance and also the ridding tactics adopted in today event, which appeared to be in contrast to the horses established racing pattern. Trainer T. Miller stated the improved performance could be attributed to todays rain affected racing surface as the horses best performances have been on rain affected surfaces. Stewards accepted this explanation. Both trainer T Miller and jockey B Thompson advised stewards that it was the intention today to ride forward. Trainer T. Miller was found guilty of a charge under AR 100(1)(a) in that as the trainer of GULF OF SAROS he did fail to notify stewards of an arrangement to ride GULF OF SAROS in a forward position when the horse has been ridden, at its most recent starts, back in the field. Mr Miller was fined the sum of $300. In assessing penalty stewards to into account exemplary record.
 
KOWLOON GEM- Obliged to steady from heels at the 1300m when the pace slackened.
 
COLLECTION POINT- Raced wide in the early stages before being permitted to stride forward to a position outside the lead passing the 1000m. Jockey K. Wilson-Taylor reported at scale that the gelding became awkward in its action from the 600m and he elected to retire COLLECTION POINT from the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer’s representative for the L. Freedman stable was advised that the gelding will be required to barrier trial prior to racing again.
 
LEORED- Slow to begin. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn
 
REEL WILD (NZ)- Raced wide throughout.
 
TOP SPY- Jockey C. Whitely was asked about the tactics adopted he advised stewards that it was not his intention to lead in the early stages, however with the addition of blinkers the horse raced keenly and was obliged to improve to a position outside the lead. Jockey Whitely was further questioned as to the reason for his mount losing ground in the middle stages he stated that he allowed OUR CASTAWAY to cross his mount near the 1300m and that horse continued to steady and force him further back in the field and with runners to his outside he was unable to improve.
 
 
EARN OUT- Over-raced in the early stages. Near the 100m shifted out to avoid heels and raced wide throughout.
 
 
 
 
Race 8: MARTIN COLLINS AUSTRALIA QTIS Three-Year-Old
BENCHMARK 68 Handicap 1200 metres
 
EN POINTE- Post race veterinary examination revealed signs of heat stress.
 
HONKYTONK DIVA- Raced wide throughout.
 
ALTAR BOY- Jockey Orman was asked to comment on the performance on his mount, he stated that horse travelled well until the 500m and at this point resented racing to the inside of GREAT ASPIRATIONS, became awkward in its action and lost ground. He added that the gelding laid in the home straight, however it was doing its best work late and was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.
 
GREAT ASPIRATIONS (NZ)- Raced wide without cover.
 
TOW THE LINE- Slow to begin. Held up rounding the home turn and until the 200m
 
 
Race 9: BARRIER REEF POOLS OPEN Handicap 1200 metres
 
BANDIPUR- Began awkwardly. After passing the 1000m was steadied from the heels of ORIENTAL RUNNER which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. Near the 100m, tightened for room and had to be checked when racing between TEARS OF LOVE and LINTHORPE LAD which shifted in after being bumped on the hindquarters.
 
TEARS OF LOVE- Improve onto heels coming to the 600m steadied and shifted in tightening BAANONE.
 
BAANONE (NZ)- Began awkwardly. Tighten for room at the 600m and had to be steadied.
 
KAVAK-Late Scratching at 1:53pm due to downgrade of the track.
 
MIX- Late Scratching @2:20pm due to downgrade of the track.
 
ORIENTAL RUNNER- Laid in badly in the early stages.
 
COLLAY'S SPIRIT (NZ)- Slow to begin. Whilst weakening approaching the 100m was steadied when placed in restricted room between TEARS OF LOVE and DUBAI TYCOON which was taken out by DARE TO SHARE, which shifted ground out under pressure. Jockey Berriman (DARE TO SHARE) was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.
 
 
LE HEROS- Late Scratching at 1:53pm due to downgrade of the track.
 
Race 10: HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY LOVE AUSTIN & AALIYAH Class 1
Handicap 1200 metres
 
Following race 9 and after ongoing rain, stewards inspected the track with a delegation of riders and found the surface to be unfit to continue racing and abandoned this race.
