Prior to the declaration of correct weight Jockey J. Bayliss, rider of BRAZEN IMPACT lodged a protest against first past the post, LITTLE VISTA alleging interference in the home straight. After viewing the Stewards video footage and considering submissions from the riders and connections, Stewards found that LITTLE VISTA shifted out abruptly near the 250m causing BRAZEN IMPACT to be forced out and inconvenienced at that point. However, Stewards were not satisfied that this interference was sufficient to reverse the half length margin at the completion of the event and therefore dismissed the objection and declared correct weight on the semaphore numbers.

POSSOVER – Over raced in the middle stages. Had difficulty securing clear running rounding the home turn and in the early stages of the home straight. Apprentice M. Castle pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under AR 131(a) in that at a point approaching the 900m she allowed her mount to shift in when insufficiently clear of PRETTY LITTLE LASS forcing that mare in onto the rightful running of POSSOVER causing that horse to be checked and lose ground. Apprentice M. Castle’s license to ride in races was suspended for a period of 11 days commencing midnight the 1st of October 2023 up to and including midnight 12th of October 2023. Jenkins indicated that today’s event was over a more favourable distance, and he had expected a forward showing as he had not been entirely disappointed with the horses previous 2 starts. Stewards also inquired into the tactics adopted whereby the mare led in todays event which is in contrast to the horses established racing pattern. Mr Jenkins explained that he had instructed Jockey B. Spriggs to attempt to obtain cover mid field, however, as the horse had been caught wide early in the early stages, Jockey Spriggs had elected to stride forward to the lead after passing the 1300m. Jockey Spriggs confirmed the riding instructions. Stewards accepted both explanations from Mr Jenkins.
