SUPPLEMENTARY REPORT

23/2/24 - MACKAY – RACE 1 – BM60 HCP

PARAMEDIC – Trainer L. Wright reported back to stewards that PARAMEDIC (NZ) had since pulled up and ate up well since its disappointing start at Mackay. He added that he had since swum PARAMEDIC (NZ) and indicated that he would continue with the preparation as he could find nothing amiss with the gelding. He further added that his intentions would be to now gallop the horse and have PARAMEDIC (NZ) undergo an endoscopic examination after that gallop and would forward those results to stewards.

23/2/24 – MACKAY – RACE 2 – OPEN HCP – STAMPEDE WARRIOR

Jockey C. Bayliss pleaded guilty to a charge under AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that he did use his whip 6 times prior to the 100m, 1 more than permitted on STAMPEDE WARRIOR and was issued with a reprimand.

24/2/24 – ROCKHAMPTON – JOCKEY COLIN LENNON

Stewards inquired into the reasons why Jockey C. Lennon failed to fulfill his engagement at Rockhampton on the 24th February in Race 4 on DON’TCHALOOKDOWN. Jockey C. Lennon submitted reasons for his absence and was subsequently issued with a reprimand under AR127(1).

GENERAL

Stewards conducted an inspection of the track at 7am race morning with the rating initially being listed as a HEAVY 10. Prior to the running of Race 1, the track was listed a HEAVY 8 after suitable time had elapsed since the initial inspection, allowing the track time for drying prior to the commencement of the meeting.

All times for each race at today’s event were hand timed.

As Apprentice S. Nielson was unable to make the meeting due to transport difficulties, Stewards acceded to a request from trainer M. Ferguson for permission for senior rider T. Chambers to replace her. In allowing a senior to replace an apprentice, Stewards were mindful that if TA CHANSON was replaced by one of the two available apprentices, then the gelding would have to carry a significant amount of dead weight in lead and therefore in the circumstances, permitted the change.

Trainer T. Simmons contacted stewards before scratching time to inform them of the issue she was having with the hydraulics of her horse float. As the hydraulics were inoperable and maintenance/repairs to the float could only be done later that morning, she was unable to attend the meeting on time and withdrew all three runners as a result.

Trainer S. Kendrick was fined $200 under LR67 for the late declaration of the rider for TORQUE NOWOR NEVER.

Race 1: BILOELA PLUMBING WORKS MDN PLT – 1300M

BANKONAJET – Contacted on jumping by POTESTAS. When questioned regarding the tactics, Apprentice A. However, after beginning well today, elected to make use of the gate speed. Trainer B. Trimble confirmed that his instructions at all starts have been to go forward. However, BANKONAJET being slow to begin at its previous two starts had prevented this from happening. Trainer Trimble further confirmed that it will be his intentions to try and adopt these tactics going forward.

When determining the commencement date for this suspension, stewards noted that another suspension incurred by Apprentice Noble at Goondiwindi on Saturday 24th February 2024 has since been appealed and therefore this suspension for this incident could commence immediately. Apprentice Noble was advised of her rights to an appeal.

Race 2: THANK YOU KERRY LYNCH OPEN HCP – 1200M

Correct weight was delayed to inquire into the reasons why BEPPE and MAGIC ON ICE started from the incorrect barriers. After taking evidence from both Apprentice A. Graham and Jockey T. Chambers, stewards were satisfied that this error had no material effect on the finishing placings and acting under AR198(2)(a), confirmed the judges’ placings. At a subsequent inquiry both Apprentice Graham and Jockey Chambers were reprimanded under AR198(1) and advised to ensure that their mounts start from their correct barriers. He added however that when he asked DEELOSH for an effort, the mare failed to respond to his urgings and was disappointing in its finishing efforts. Apprentice Moffat further stated that he felt like DEELOSH would now benefit from a spell. Trainer G. Bell could offer no explanation for the poor performance of DEELOSH and stated that the mare had worked well since entering her stable. Trainer Bell also provided evidence that she had supported the horse, but stated that due to this performance, she would now spell DEELOSH and report back to stewards on how the mare pulls up in the days subsequent.
