LATE RIDING CHANGES:

When Apprentice T.Tincknell was unable to fulfil her engagements due to injuries sustained in a fall at Townsville on Thursday, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Apprentice Tincknell was told that she must provide a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.



Race 1: Cheryl’s Boutique/Audi Centre Townsville QTIS 2-Y-O Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – BOLD SHOT 2nd – REWARD FOR RICHES 3rd – MISHANI EL LOBO 4th – CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY

CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY – At the start shifted out and made contact with WATCH ME DAZZLE EM. Raced keenly throughout the early and middle stages and had to be continually steadied off heels.

CRAIGLEA MERCEDES – Slow to begin.

FABULOUS CHILD – Rounding the home turn was awkwardly placed oh heels, shifted out abruptly and hampered LIKER. Shortly after straightening the whip of Jockey D. Simmons was entangled in the offside rein for a short distance.

BOLD SHOT – For a considerable distance in the home straight was held up and then approaching the 100 metres shifted out and made heavy contact with CRAIGLEA ODYSSEY on a number of occasions.

Race 2: A.L.B. Distributors UP & Coming Stayers BenchMark 65 Handicap – 2000 metres
1st – GO BY RIO 2nd - MASTER AVATAR 3rd – CHANGING NOTES 4th – LEAVE PASS

NUDGEE – Prior to the race connections advised stewards that, from its wide draw, the gelding would be back in the field, if possible. Public announcements were made to that effect. The horse was ridden accordingly.

JORDAN – Kicked by another runner whilst parading behind the barriers, was examined by the Club’s veterinary surgeon and cleared to take its place in the field. Bled from both nostrils during running. Trainer S. Potiris was told that, as this was the first time the gelding had bled, it will be barred from racing for 3 months under A.R. 53A, and then only after a satisfactory gallop of at least 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.

CORONATION JOURNEY – Began awkwardly.

GAINSFORD – Was standing awkwardly in the gates and got its head up at the start. In the early stages over-raced and refused to settle.

GO GIRLFRIEND – Shifted in at the start and crowded KAMARAH.

LOCKIEBE – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

GO BY RIO – Held up for clear running in the early part of the straight.

NUDGEE – In the early part of the straight was inclined to lay in.

Race 3: Mater Sullivan Nicolaides Pathology BenchMark 55 Handicap – 1609 metres
1st – RIGHTONCUE 2nd – SIX BEAT 3rd - HOTEL SPLENDIDO 4th - BEYOND

THE BEST – Prior to the race connections advised stewards that, from its wide draw, the gelding would be ridden back in the field, if possible. Public announcements were made to that effect. The horse was ridden accordingly.

HERE TO DASH – Slow to begin. Shortly after straightening was disappointed for a run and had to be steadied.

BEYOND – Slow to begin.

CRAIGLEA FOCUS – In the early stages raced keenly with its head up.

AUTHADANE – A post-race veterinary examination of the gelding, which hung out and then weakened noticeably in the straight, revealed no abnormalities.



CARLSON’S FELT – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Race 4: Mater Queensland XRay Class 3 Plate – 1400 metres
1st – SECRET HARMONY 2nd – HILARIOUS HONOUR 3r d – LADY SIOUX 4th – HOYWEDGE

BONNIE BON BON - Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer Ms L. McCormack for the late declaration of Jockey G. Watson as rider of the mare.

BEG PARDON – Slow to begin, then crowded shortly after the start, over-raced, refused to settle and as a result raced 3 wide without cover.

ONE FOR THE MONEY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with BEG PARDON.

CARLINO’S WAY – Slow to begin. Raced wide throughout. Lost its off hind plate in running.

LADY SIOUX - After being crossed in the early stages commenced to over-race and had to be continually steadied away from the heels of runners in front. In the home straight was held up and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 200 metres.

Race 5: Wilson Ryan Grose Lawyers Class 6 Plate - 1000 metres
1st – EMBRACE THE PAIN 2nd – VALLEY ROSE 3rd – MAURIZIO 4th – THAT’S POPS

THAT’S POPS – Shifted in at the start and made contact with AUGUSTE.

BEAUDRAGON – When questioned Apprentice B. Grylls explained that she had been instructed to ride her mount in a forward position and after beginning well she rode it along, however was unable to cross runners to her inside and was obliged to race 3 deep throughout. She added that shortly after straightening she placed the gelding under pressure but it failed to respond and was disappointing.


Race 6: Mater Townsville Cup Open Handicap - 2000 metres
1st – OUTRAGED 2nd – LIGHTENUFF 3rd – ARTIBAI 4th – MOUNTAIN VIEW

HOT SAGA – Crowded for room shortly after the start.

CLEANSING ALE – Over-raced and refused to settle in the early stages, and rounding the turn passing the winning post on the first occasion improved onto heels and had to be checked.

ARTIBAI – Momentarily held up for clear running rounding the home turn and in the early part of the straight.

CASTLE EXPRESS – Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the straight.

ROWEINER – Passing the 200 metres shifted out in search of clear running and bumped WALHAAN.

IT’SALL ABOUTHARRY – Shortly after straightening had to be steadied when momentarily inconvenienced.


FIRA – When questioned regarding the performance, Jockey J. P. Stanley said that his mount was inclined to hang out throughout, placing him at a disadvantage, and the gelding went to the finish without being fully tested. Trainer Mr J. Morris said that he intends to experiment with the horse’s gear. Nevertheless, he was told that a warning will be placed on the gelding for hanging.

ROCKNET – Jockey B. Thomson pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137A for using her whip on the gelding on 9 occasions prior to the 100 metres. Jockey Thomson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight tonight, 30th July 2016, up to and including midnight on 6th August 2016.

Race 7: XXXX Gold Cleveland Bay Open Handicap – 1300 metres
1st – EXECUTED 2nd – ONE BAR NONE 3rd – RIVARIVA 4th – ACCIDENTAL

MISHANI WARRIOR – Crowded for room at the start.

MS BA BELLA – Crowded for room at the start.

HANDYMAN BOB – Raced keenly in the early stages.

GREEN ANCHOR – In the early part of the straight when inclined to lay out, shifted out and bumped another runner.

CHATEAU DETTORI – When questioned regarding why she stopped riding her mount over the final stages, Jockey S. Wiseman said that her mount was inclined to hang in and for this reason she desisted from using the whip over the final few strides.

ONE BAR NONE – Jockey B. Thomson pleaded guilty to a charge under A.R. 137A in that she used the whip on her mount on 11 occasions prior to the 100 metres, 2 of those in consecutive strides. Jockey Thomson was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 30th July 2016, up to and including midnight on 6th August 2016, to be served concurrently with the penalty imposed in Race 6 today.

Race 8: Mater Rehabilitation Service BenchMark 60 Handicap – 1200 metres
1st - HIDDEN ROAD 2nd - FLYING IGGY3rd - RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS 4th – SCHNELLES PFERD

WANTABETHEONE – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced wide without cover throughout.

JETFIRE – Began awkwardly.

KISSER – Was inclined to lay in.

Shortly after the start SMOOTH GENERAL (Apprentice L. Attard) had to be steadied to avoid the heels of WANTABETHEONE (Jockey B. Thomson), which was carried inwards by FLYING IGGY (Jockey S. Wilson), which shifted in when not clear. Jockey Wilson was reprimanded.

WATCH THE RED (Jockey D. Sparks) Began awkwardly. Rounding the turn near the 800 metres had to be steadied when crowded between KISSER (Jockey S. Wiseman) and FRENCH AMOUR (Jockey P. Cullen), which hung out despite the efforts of its rider. On returning to scale Jockey Cullen reported that his mount hung out throughout the event.

SMOOTH GENERAL – Had difficulty obtaining clear running and passing the 1200 metres was momentarily awkwardly placed on heels.
