Race 1: Happy 50th Brett BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1000 metres

On returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese, the rider of CHECKOUT ME TRAVLA which finished 2nd, lodged an objection against ROYAL PHYSICIAN (Apprentice E. Cass) being declared the winner, alleging interference over the final 150m. After hearing evidence from the parties involved and viewing the official race film, stewards established that ROYAL PHSICIAN shifted out under pressure over the final 150m, dictating the line of CHECKOUT ME TRAVLA, forcing that runner much wider approaching the winning post. Bearing in mind the margin of a nose between those runners, stewards upheld the objection and declared correct weight on the amended judge’s numbers: 1st CHECKOUT ME TRAVLA, 2ND ROYAL PHYSICIAN, 3rd GUTZ CI.

Apprentice E. Cass, Rider of ROYAL PHYSICIAN was advised to show greater effort to keep her mounts straight in similar circumstances.

Race 2: Love A Great Day Out #UBET -  1000 metres

Jockey D. Sparks pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that as the rider of GENEREAL CHEVAL he permitted his mount to shift when not fully clear of CRAIGLEA CETINA (Jockey D. Simmons), which had to be checked to avoid the heels of GENERAL CHEVAL. Jockey Sparks was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence at midnight on 11th March 2017, up to and including midnight on 23rd March 2017, a period covering 12 days.

Jockey D. Simmons pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding under A.R. 137(a) in that as the rider of CRAIGLEA CETINA, near the 250 m he directed his mount outwards and shifted out when not fully clear of CRAIGLEA TICKER (Jockey G. Kliese), which had to be checked to avoid the heels of CRAIGLEA CETINA. In considering penalty stewards took in to account the racing manners of the filly racing greenly and also the racing manners of MR SONADOR which hung in at that point of the race making contact with CRAIGLEA TICKER which became unbalanced. In all mitigating circumstances and the fact that Jockey Simmons pleaded guilty and had no breaches under this rule since 2012 following close to 2000 race rides he was severely reprimanded.
