Race 1, Maiden Handicap
 
SERIOUS CAPER - Trainer J. Wehlow advised stewards that upon returning to his stables SERIOUS CAPER was found to be suffering from a lung infection, for which it was being treated. Mr Wehlow was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
 
Mackay Turf Club: 16th May 2017
 
SUPREME JET - Trainer M. Attard advised stewards that upon returning to the stables the horse was found to have sprained its off fore suspensory ligament and has been sent for an immediate spell. Mr Attard was advised that he must provide a veterinary clearance prior to the gelding being permitted to race again.
 
GENERAL:
As Jockey A. Coome was indisposed and unable to fulfil his engagements, substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
 
Race 1:  www.townsvilleturfclub.com.au Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
 
IRISH EYES - The start was delayed when the filly proved difficult to load. Trainer R. Bowen was advised that a warning will be placed on the horse's barrier manners.
 
MACCA'S HEART - Slow to begin. Became unbalanced near the 600 metres and had to be restrained from heels then shifted wider and raced wide from that point onwards.
 
HOT TEMPO - Began awkwardly.
 
VALENTINE'S DAY - Over-raced in the middle stages.
 
Race 2: Cheryl's Boutique QTIS 2-Years-Old Handicap - 1000 metres
 
MOLONGLE FIRE - Began very awkwardly and lost ground before improving forward quickly to share the lead. Lost its of hind plate during running. Rider G. Kliese reported that the gelding had a tendency to lay in for the majority of the race.
 
CRAIGLEA NIKITA - Slow to begin.
 
LOOK TO HEAVEN - Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the race.
 
SPECIAL STYLE - Restrained shortly after the start when placed in restricted room.
 
FORGOTTEN FEELING - Shifted in shortly after the start, crowding a runner to its inside. Jockey D. Evans was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 3: Tackleworld Open Handicap - 1300 metres
 
ACCIDENTAL - The start was delayed, when the saddle shifted forward during the horse's preliminary, resulting in the horse having to be resaddled.  When questioned about the tactics adopted today, when the gelding led, contrary to its normal racing pattern, Apprentice C. Bayliss stated that it was not his intention to lead, however after beginning very well he obtained the lead without being pressured, and the gelding then had a tendency to over-race and he was unable to restrain it. Trainer T. Butts agreed with Apprentice Bayliss's explanation and further advised stewards that he would now freshen the gelding prior to its next start.
 
CRAIGLEA DEKEN - Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the race.
 
SHEKOU - Slow to begin, before improving forward quickly to share the lead.
 
Race 4: Steve McKenzie Consultant Engineer Class 6 Plate -1000 metres
 
I'LL TAKE THE JAG - Slow to begin. Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
LOKUM - Slow to begin.
 
RED DIAMONDS - Steadied near the 900 metres when crowded for room. Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the event.
 
WINDMILL LANE - Shifted in near the 900 metres and crowded another runner. Rider Ms M. Thomson was advised to show greater care in similar circumstances.
 
Race 5: NQ Excavations QTIS 3-Years-Old Plate - 1300 metres
 
HARVEST PRIDE - Began awkwardly, resulting in its rider making contact with the right side  barrier partition and his mount losing ground. Raced wide for the majority of the race. Rider P. Cullen was examined by the ambulance officers following the race and cleared to fulfil his remaining engagements.
 
KING TORIO - Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the race.
 
TYZONE - Bumped by another runner near the 500 metres.
 
JOHANTEE - Shifted out near the 500 metres and bumped another runner.
 
CRAIGLEA MERCEDES - Stewards questioned rider B. Grylls in regards to the tactics she adopted on the colt today, in contrast to its previous runs. Jockey Grylls said that after beginning only fairly, she was going to be caught wide and consequently elected to improve forward and assume the lead. She added that she had not intended to lead by as far as her mount did today, however it raced strongly once it obtained the lead. Stewards noted the explanation.
 
Race 6: Ardent Office Equipment  Ratings Band 0- 60 Handicap - 1609 metres
 
Due to technical errors, blinkers did not appear in the Race Book for CARLINO'S WAY, this was not a gear change.
 
HARJAKA - Prior to the race connections advised stewards that the intention would be to ride the gelding back in the field. Public announcements were made to that effect and the horse was ridden accordingly. Slow to begin.
 
JORDAN - Slow to begin.
 
BLU AXIS - Slow to begin. Raced wide for the majority of the race.
 
INTIMATE KINGDOM - Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 500 metres and was unable to improve.
 
ROBABANK - Raced wide in the early stages.
 
Race 7: The Mater Health Services NTH QLD BenchMark 55 Handicap - 1000 metres
 
MOLONGLE HERO - Slow to begin.
 
CRAIGLEA GHETTO - Began awkwardly and blundered shortly after the start.
 
RAINING DOLLARS - Slow to begin. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.
 
KAP IT OFF - Shifted in and crowded a runner to its inside near the 800 metres. Jockey F. Edwards was advised to show more care in similar circumstances.
MY GIRL'S A DRAGON - Steadied when crowded for room near the 800 metres.
 
OLSSON - Had a tendency to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
DELTA MAGIC - Raced 3 wide with no cover for the majority of the race.
 
Race 8: Kordamentha Winter Provincial Sprinters Series (HEAT) BenchMark 70 Handicap - 1300 metres
 
I'M NOT SURE - Slow to begin, improved onto heels leaving the 800 metres and was steadied.
 
BELORUM - Slow to begin.
 
ASSERTIVE LOVE - Slow to begin.
 
KAYLEE - Slow to begin.
 
PERFECT KNOWLEDGE - Had difficulty obtaining clear running approaching the home turn.
 
CHAMAREL - Held up in the early part of the home straight. Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
CLEAVER - Raced 3 wide without cover for the majority of the race.  Lost its near fore plate during running.
