Trainer C Williams will advise Stewards  should anything which may have had a bearing on today’s disappointing performance become apparent in coming days.

POTAWATOMI – The gelding, which was resuming following a spell, was unable to muster pace in the early and middle stages, before tacking onto the field approaching the 400m and finishing off only fairly.

ALL STAR ROCKET – Fractious in the barrier. Shifted in near the 600m when not fully clear to do so. Jockey W D’Avila was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

Bumped with another runner passing the 50m, becoming unbalanced.

SILENT EXPLORER – Had to be checked near the 1250m. Momentarily held up passing the 250m. Shifted out under pressure approaching the 100m inconveniencing runners to its outside. Jockey N Day was reprimanded for careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a).

Jockey L Morrison was found guilty of careless riding under the provisions of AR131(a) in that near the 1250m she permitted NICE RETORT to shift in onto the running of LANGHRO (R McMahon) when insufficiently clear to do so resulting in that runner having to be checked. SILENT EXPLORER, which was racing to the inside of LANGHRO also had to be checked as a result. Jockey Morrison’s licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 9 days to commence Sunday 16th January, 2022 up to and including Monday 24th January, 2022. In determining penalty Stewards were considerate of Jockey Morrison’s good record in relation to the rule, and the degree of interference which was deemed to be in the low range. Jockey Morrison was advised of her right to refer the matter to the Internal Reviewer.

Race 7. BFQ ACCOUNTANTS CLASS 3 PLATE 1609m

TENNESSEE WHISKEY – After being slowly into stride, failed to muster the pace necessary to maintain touch with the main body of the field, getting well out of its ground. Commenced a forward move under hard riding passing the 1200m, tacking onto the tailenders and then racing ungenerously for a short distance after improving onto heels near the 600m. Was eased down in the home straight taking no competitive part in the finish. Jockey J Stanley reported that the gelding had been reluctant to stride out early and had never travelled comfortably at any stage of the event. Jockey Stanley added that soon after straightening it became clear to him that the gelding was not responding to his riding and he was therefore reluctant to place it under pressure over the concluding stages. Trainer B Crear, who was generally at a loss to explain the disappointing performance, felt the gelding may have resented the crossover noseband today, and advised he will consider a gear change prior to next start. A post-race Veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. A post-race swab sample was obtained and will be sent for analysis. Stewards intend to inquire into the matter once details of wagering on the event become available.

CONQUERING JUDAS – Lost ground at the point of the 1000m turn after making contact with the running rail.

MUFASTA – Raced wide for the majority.

BRAVIO – Slowly into stride.

HONORED VOW – When questioned in relation to, what was on face value, the improved performance of the mare, Trainer M Potiris advised that it was racing over a more suitable distance today and was not suited by the pedestrian pace at its previous start over 1500m at Mareeba.

TIDEWAY – Raced wide for the majority.

Stewards delayed declaration of Correct Weight in order to consider an objection lodged by Jockey L Morrison who rode 2nd placegetter CONQUERING JUDAS against 1st placegetter HONORED VOW (W D’Avila) alleging interference at the point of the 1000m turn. After hearing submissions from connections of both horses and viewing the relevant footage, Stewards could not be comfortably satisfied that the racing manners of HONORED VOW had played any meaningful part in CONQUERING JUDAS losing ground at that point after making contact with the running rail. Consequently Jockey Morrison’s objection was dismissed and Correct Weight was declared on the Judge’s numbers.

Race 8. GRACIE SIGNS BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP 1000m
