Following the running of Race 4, the declaration of Correct Weight was delayed after 2nd placegetter Jockey L Morrison (EL SHADAY (NZ)), elected to lodge an objection against 1st placegetter THE EGYPTIAN (App T Fenlon) alleging interference in the home straight. After hearing submissions from connections and viewing the available patrol footage, although Stewards did acknowledge that THE EGYPTIAN had shifted out marginally at a point passing the 250m making contact with EL SHADAY (NZ) which was racing to its outside, resulting in THE EGYPTIAN becoming unbalanced, and also that there was a second minor gradual shift outwards from THE EGYPTIAN resulting in both horses brushing, they were of the opinion that THE EGYPTIAN was, over the concluding stages, comfortably maintaining the margin of a long head, which separated the two runners at the winning post. Consequently, Jockey Morrison’s objection was dismissed and Stewards declared Correct Weight on the Judge’s semaphored numbers.

Jockey G Kliese was advised to exercise greater care under similar circumstances.

Stewards inquired into an incident which occurred near the 250m resulting in CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS (W D’Avila) becoming unbalanced having to be restrained soon after. After hearing evidence from Jockeys D Smith (QUEEN OF MANHATTAN), R Wiggins (KITTYKITTYBANGBANG) and Jockey D’Avila and viewing the available patrol footage it was established that approaching that point QUEEN OF MANHATTAN shifted out bumping with CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS which was tiring at the time, causing that horse to become unbalanced. Soon after, KITTYKITTYBANGBANG, which had improved to the outside of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS shifted in when not fully clear to do so resulting in tightening to the running of CHEVRONS’N’ROCKERS. Jockeys Smith and Jockey Wiggins were both reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a).
