GENERAL
 
Rider Adam Spinks did not attend the meeting due to illness and was replaced in Race 5 by Nathan Thomas. Mr. Spinks was advised appropriate medical clearances would be required prior to next riding.
 
Due to travel delays, rider Nathan Thomas was replaced in Race 1 on MY LITTLE VIKING by Chris Whiteley.
 
Race 1: LADBROKE IT! MAIDEN HANDICAP1400 M
 
SOSTHENES – faltered passing the 600 metres and fell dislodging its rider.
KAISA – stood flat footed then began very awkwardly losing several lengths; badly checked near 600 metres and lost all chance.
HUGHIE VUITTON – crowded on jumping and had to steady; bought down near the 600 metres.
MY LITTLE VIKING – jumped out at the start.
RIVALON – badly checked 600 metres.
THE HIPPY – checked at the 600 metres.
 
SOSTHENES faltered passing the 600 metres when in clear running dislodging rider Pietro Romeo. Jockey Romeo was attended to by the on-track medical personnel and transferred to Townsville Hospital for further assessment. HUGHIE VUITTON, which was in behind, was unable to avoid the fallen SOSTHENES and was bought down, with rider Olivia Kendal being attended to by the on-track medical personnel. Also affected in this incident were RIVALON which was badly checked and THE HIPPY which was checked.
As a consequence of its injury, SOSTHENES was humanely euthanised.
HUGHIE VUITTON was attended by the track veterinarian and will be further assessed in coming days.
 
Race 2: LADBROKES SAME RACE MULTI QTIS TWO-YEARS-OLD MAIDEN HANDICAP1200 M
 
Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens replaced Olivia Kendal on JUNGLEDELI
HEZA ROMEO – began awkwardly.
SOGOYA – was fractious in the barriers prior to jumping and when the start was made began awkwardly and lost ground.
UNDER THE SHADOW – crowded passing the 1,000 metres room and had to steady; laid out under pressure over the final 200 metres.
DIAMOND CODE – raced 4-wide throughout.
KOBAYASTAR – raced 4-wide throughout.
MISHANI UNLAWFUL – very slow to jump and settled well back.
FORGETABOUTIT – crowded and had to steady passing the 1,000 metres.
 
Stewards inquired to an incident passing the 1,000 metres where UNDER THE SHADOW (Ms Gabrielle Semmens) and FORGETABOUTIT (Carl Spry) were crowded for room when racing inside HEZA ROMEO (Adrian Layt), which when improving forward to the lead, shifted ground inward when not clear.
After questioning riders and reviewing vision of the incident Mr Layt was severely reprimanded under AR131a and advised that he must ensure he always provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground.
 
Race 3: LADBROKES BET TICKER OPEN HANDICAP1200 M
 
Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens replaced Olivia Kendal on TIGER LEGEND.
CAPTAIN BOND was declared a late scratching at 3:06pm after refusing to load into the barriers. CAPTAIN BOND must now trial to the satisfaction prior to next racing.
FULL RECOGNITION – jumped awkwardly.
TIGER LEGEND – raced in restricted room shortly after leaving the barriers.
CASTILE – held up rounding the final turn and only obtained clear running passing the 150 metres.
MALVAGIO – over-raced when wide through the middle stages.
 
 
Race 4: CARNIVAL TICKETS ON SALE NOW BM65 HANDICAP1609 M
 
JOE'S GIGGLE underwent pre-race veterinary examination after racing at Bowen on 20th April 2024.
EDIFICATION – inclined to lay out in the final straight.
MOOLOOLABA (NZ) – inclined to over-race in the lead.
COOLMEANS (NZ) – bumped approaching the winning post.
MONASTERY – raced wide rounding the first turn and was taken forward to the lead; laid out under pressure in the final straight and approaching the post shifted out and bumped with COOLMEANS.
SACRED LEGACY (NZ) – slow in the early stages.
CONQUERING JUDAS – got back from a wide draw; commenced to over-race passing the 1,200 metres and thereafter raced wide for the remainder.
Rider G Kliese (EDIFICATION) admitted a breach of AR132(7)(a)(ii) and was fined $500.00 being that he applied the whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres and thereafter more than the permitted guidelines.
 
 
Race 5: HYGAIN QTIS THREE-YEARS-OLD HANDICAP1000 M
 
Apprentice Gabrielle Semmens replaced Olivia Kendal on MISHANI PERFECTION and with there being no suitable rider was permitted to rider the filly 1kg over the allocated weight.
ROWEINER'S DANCE – inclined to race greenly under pressure in the final straight.
CRAICARO – slow to jump away.
EXTRA FREE – bumped after the start.
HUNT THE HUNTER – began awkwardly.
MISHANI PERFECTION – lay in shortly after leaving the barriers and bumped with EXTRA FREE.
KOBIE'S LUCK – gave ground over the latter stages and finished back – a post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
 
Race 6: MITAVITE BM55 HANDICAP1000 M
 
Jackson Murphy replaced Olivia Kendal on MARTY AWHA.
COLD POWER – bumped at the start; raced wide throughout.
BEEFEATERS – raced wide without cover throughout.
HEISWOODY – slow to jump away; held up rounding the final turn and failed to obtain clear running throughout the final straight.
KINTAMANI – raced wide throughout.
WHEY MISCHIEF – raced wide throughout. Collapsed post-race and had to be attended by the on-track veterinarian. Trainer Stephen Massingham was advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the gelding next racing .
DIVINE SIENNA – raced wide through the early stages.
TANTRUMS – held up rounding the final turn and only obtained clear running passing the 50 metres.
On 24 April 2024, Trainer S Massingham advised Stewards that a morning veterinary examination of WHEY MISCHIEFrevealed no further abnormalities and that further blood samples had been taken by his veterinary surgeon.
 
Race 7: LADBROKES MATES MODE BM60 HANDICAP1400 M
 
Rider Ashley Butler replaced Olivia Kendal on CIAO BICKY.
BREAKWATER BOY – shifted out on jumping hampering DENSITY.
AWE – raced wide rounding the first turn.
TALONS – raced in restricted room in the early part of the final straight.
DENSITY – hampered at the start and got back in the field as a consequence.
ROCK IN THE PARK – A post-race veterinary examinationrevealedthe gelding to be mildly agitated in recovery.
On 24 April 2024, Trainer S Massingham advised Stewards that ROCK IN THE PARK had pulled up lame in the near side knee and it was his intention to recommend to owners the gelding be retired.
