Race 2: DAN FLOHR MECHANICAL CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1100M

Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer J. Anderson for the late declaration of R. Ride as the rider of HEAVENLY GLASS.

Correct weight was delayed to allow K. Yoshida, the rider of 2nd placegetter RITZY BELLE, and trainer K. Kemp to view the Stewards’ patrol footage to ascertain whether there were grounds on which to lodge an objection against the winner SNEAKY PETERSON. After viewing the videos, both parties declined to lodge an objection and correct weight was declared on the numbers semaphored.

Race 4: NEIL MANSELL CONCRETE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1300M

SELFIE – When questioned as to the disappointing performance, apprentice M. Powell advised that the gelding obtained a forward position in the early stages without being overly pressured and travelled comfortably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure from leaving the 600m failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer M. Frappell advised that following tonight’s performance, the gelding would be spelled immediately.

GOOD JOB BRO – Passing the 1100m commenced to race ungenerously for a distance whilst being restrained. Stewards questioned apprentice J. Orman as to whether there was an opportunity to improve into the race sooner than he did when trailing a tiring runner during the middle stages of the event. Apprentice Orman advised that whilst he was aware that he was positioned some lengths from the lead, approaching the 700m, when trailing RAZZLING DAZZLER, which was not improving into the race as he had expected, he was reluctant to pressure his mount at that stage as at previous starts the gelding has shown that it only has a short sprint. Apprentice Orman added that although he had waited until the 600m before pressuring the gelding, it failed to run on over the concluding stages, which reinforced his opinion that it only possesses a short sprint. Apprentice J. Orman was fined $100 for failing to weigh in for 4th.

RAZZLING DAZZLER – Connections advised that from the inside barrier it would be the intention to have the horse ridden more positively today. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice Ljung advised that the mare never travelled strongly throughout the event and when placed under pressure from the 600m proved disappointing. Apprentice Ljung added that in her opinion the mare raced flat today and may have come to the end of its preparation. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer K. Kemp advised that following tonight’s performance, RAZZLING DAZZLER would be spelled immediately.

Race 5: TYRRELL’S WINES MAIDEN H'CAP – 1300M

PORTLAND POWER – Slow to begin. Uncompetitive. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer R. Drysdale was advised that the gelding must perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial before it is permitted to start again.

SIR CLISBY – Slow to begin. Momentarily forced to steady to avoid heels approaching the 100m.

MISS WONDERFILLY – Momentarily forced to steady to avoid heels approaching the 100m.

PIPER – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 1200m. Bumped by another runner near the 900m. Apprentice E. Ljung was reprimanded for using the whip in a forehand manner more than 5 times prior to the 100m.

HARDMAN HARRY – Tightened for room passing the winning post on the first occasion when BACK TO ABILENE was taken in by JOSHUA’S MIGHT (P. Hamilton), which shifted in when not fully clear. P. Hamilton was reprimanded.
