JAM TOAST – Rider L. Tarrant dropped his whip near the 150m.

RED KNOT – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey T. Bell advised that his instructions were to ride the horse positively to obtain a forward position, however he was unable to muster sufficient speed to cross runners inside, resulting in him racing 3 wide for the duration of the event. He added that the colt never travelled comfortably throughout the event and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.

HAVASAY – Jockey G. Colless reported his mount travelled well, however when placed under some pressure approaching the home turn the gelding did not respond to his riding in the home straight. A post race veterinary examination revealed a poor post-race recovery. A swab sample was taken from the horse.

A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

WISH COME TRUE – Inclined to lay in when placed under pressure approaching the home turn. Bumped approaching the finish line.

JUMBO PRINCE – Raced in restricted room to the inside of another runner which shifted in approaching the 1300m.

STORMY GREY – Rider R. Ride was reprimanded for shifting in approaching the 1300m, causing a tightening to JUMBO PRINCE and WE’RE READY. Commenced to overrace at the heels of another runner for a considerable distance near the 1200 when the pace steadied.

J. Morris, rider of VINTAGE BON, was found guilty to a charge of careless riding in that approaching the 100m he permitted his mount to shift in resulting in HONEY HOLT being forced inward, and causing T. Bell having to take hold of that filly, and further resulting in STORMY GREY which was racing to the inside of HONEY HOLT, being forced to check when placed in restricted room. J. Morris was suspended from riding in races for a period covered by 7 meetings, to commence at midnight, 5 May and to expire at midnight, 17 May.

Race 9: K & R Plumbing CG&E BM85 H'cap – 1200m

SPICE OF LIFE – Stood in the barriers and refused to jump with the field. Connections were advised they would have to produce a barrier certificate for the horse prior to its next race start. DREAM OF SLIPS – Steadied to avoid heels near the 1100m.

THEFT – Tightened for room near the 100m and eased when JACK’S JET shifted out after improving on to the heels of UPSTART PRIDE, which shifted out under pressure. M. McGuren, ride of UPSTART PRIDE, will be advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances.

BAHSA – Raced wide without cover.

UPSTART PRIDE – Apprentice M. McGuren was questioned regarding the tactics adopted, particularly leading in the middle stages by a considerable distance. Apprentice McGuren stated that whilst he realised the gelding was setting fast sectionals he was reluctant to restrain as he was of the view that UPSTART PRIDE may resent this action, which he felt would have a detrimental effect on the horse’s ability to finish the race off. Stewards advised apprentice McGuren that an apprentice of his experience would be expected to at least make an effort to restrain his mounts in similar circumstances.

JUST A PERLA – Performed disappointingly. Trainer J. Bannon advised that in his opinion the gelding was not suited by dropping back in distance for today’s event. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
