Race 1: Searle Financial And Insurance Maiden Plate – 1210m

Trainer B. Dais was fined $100 for failing to declare a rider for DE LYNCH by the prescribed time.

DE LYNCH – Rider E. Ljung reported at scale that upon obtaining the lead her mount was reluctant to stride forward, leaving her unable to cross to the rail and resulting in her racing outside the eventual winner.

PRINCE BEAUFORT – Tightened for room on jumping away.

MAKE HAAY – Tightened for room on jumping away.

CHEEKY CHOPPY – Began awkwardly and bumped at the start.

FOREWARD STRIKE – Bumped heavily at the start. Raced 3 wide without cover.

I CAN I WILL I AM – Steadied when tightened for room near the 400m.

WORDS AND PICTURES – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.

WAIMEA GREY – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

Race 2: Neil Mansell Transport F&M 0-70 H'cap

On return to scale a protest was lodged by W. O’Connell, rider of the 3rd placegetter, MY MAISIE, against ONE IN ONE OUT being declared 2nd, alleging interference near the 200m. After taking evidence from the parties concerned and from the stewards’ observations, stewards found at a point near the 200m, ONE IN ONE OUT shifted in under pressure, resulting in MY MAISIE being tightened for room for a short distance until a point approaching the 100m where MY MAISIE had to be checked and shifted to the outside of ONE IN ONE OUT to obtain clear running. Bearing in mind the margin between the relevant horses at the finish and the degree of interference suffered, stewards were satisfied that a reversal of placings was warranted and the protest was upheld and the Judge’s placings altered to read: No.7 – RIVER GEORGIA – 1st No. 3. – My Maisie - 2nd No.2 – One In One Out – 3rd No. 5 – Roman Silver – 4th

GOLD PAN – Jumped away awkwardly and bumped the hind quarters of ULTIMATE RUSH and lost ground. Shifted away from the fallen horse near the 150m, dislodging its rider. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be lame in the off foreleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next race start.

ULTIMATE RUSH – Bumped at the start. Fell near the 150m, dislodging apprentice R. Williams. Stewards took initial evidence from all riders in the race and adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to allow the fallen riders, who were transported to hospital by ambulance, to be present. A post race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be stiff in the off hindleg. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required prior to the horse’s next race start.

MY MAISIE – Shifted out near the 900m away from the heels of KURKOVA, bumping AWESOME SIGHT, which in turn shifted out and made heavy contact with GOLD PAN.

ONE IN ONE OUT – Raced 3 wide without cover.

Race 3: Wimmers Premium Soft Drinks Class 1 H'cap – 1300m

Due to the fallen riders being transported to hospital, this race was rescheduled to start at 6.10 pm.

SPORT OF KINGS – Slow to begin and had to be steadied from heels at the start.

RITZY BELLE – After being caught wide in the early stages, rider E. Ljung restrained her mount to take up a position one off the fence. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.

SERAPHIMS – When asked to comment on the performance, rider K. Yoshida stated that, in his opinion, the gelding felt the effects of the increase in weight and distance and this may have contributed to the performance.

Race 4: Vanderfield CG&E 0-70 H'cap – 1210m

CROUPIER – A pre race veterinary examination of the horse, which had not started for 18 months, cleared the gelding to take its place in the field.

STARSTREAMED – Slow to begin.

WYLIE – Travelled wide throughout.

AUGUST BISHOP – Travelled wide throughout.

BUSH CAVIAR – When asked to comment on the improved performance, trainer Mr M. Kropp stated that, in his opinion, the improvement could be attributed to the removal of the tongue tie from the gelding’s gear.

STARSTREAMED – Inconvenienced at the 300m inside the tiring AUGUST BISHOP.

Race 5: Tyrrell’s Wines H'cap – 1210m

HONEY TOAST – Declared a late scratching on veterinary advice at 6.51 pm. As betting for this race had not commenced, no deductions were applicable. Connections were advised that a veterinary clearance would be required for the horse prior to its next race start.

KARAKA STORM – Overraced in the early stages.

LOOK AT ANYTHING – Inclined to hang out in the early stages and raced ungenerously.

QUALITY MAN – Shifted in under pressure in the home straight. Following this race jockey R. Ride reported her leg cramped up, placing her at a disadvantage over the concluding stages.

Race 7: XXXX Gold QTIS 3yo Maiden Plate – 1300m

As jockey R. Ride was unable to fulfil her engagement on CYRENE after becoming indisposed after riding in Race 6, J. Worley was substituted as the rider of CYRENE.

SORORITY SISTER – Bumped on jumping away.
