DANNI’S DIVA – Commenced to hang out from shortly after the start and made the home turn extremely wide. Trainer M. Frappell was advised that he would be required to barrier trial the mare to the satisfaction of stewards prior to its next race start .

START THE SHOW – Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: Tyrrell’s Wines Class 1 H'cap – 1300m

NO NEGATIVE WAVES - Declared a late scratching at 5.38 pm by order of the stewards after becoming fractious in the barriers and rearing over. Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded, with the following deductions applicable.

3 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
5 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #11

Trainer’s representative Mr C. James was advised that a further barrier certificate would be required for NO NEGATIVE WAVES prior to its next race start.

SAIL THE STARS – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

MACGYVER – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.

WAR FRONT – Brushed the running rail near the 1000m and became very unbalanced and lost ground.

ANGELICAN – Raced in restricted room for a short distance leaving the 900m.

AL HAMZA – Raced wide for the majority of the race. When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, apprentice T. Brooker advised that after beginning well she attempted to obtain a forward position, however was unable to show sufficient speed to do so, which resulted in her being caught wide. She added that when placed under pressure to improve into the race the gelding failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. Trainer Mr P. Sexton expressed disappointment in the performance, adding that he would now modify the horse’s training regime and look to start the horse at non TAB venues at its next start if he could identify a suitable race. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

MACGYVER – Raced wide without cover.

NANDINE ROAD – Raced wide for the majority of the race.

SORORITY SISTER – Held up from rounding the home turn until near the 200m.

Stewards questioned trainer K. Kemp in relation to the disappointing performance of WAR FRONT, which drifted noticeably in the off-course markets in the race where its stablemate NANDINE ROAD firmed considerably in the off-course markets. Mr Kemp advised that he had expected a forward showing from WAR FRONT tonight based on its overall form, particularly its first 2 race starts in New South Wales prior to entering his stable, and therefore he expressed disappointment in its performance tonight. He added that whilst WAR FRONT is only an average track worker, he still felt its work was reasonable enough to expect it to be competitive in tonight’s event. Mr Kemp further stated he had a small wager on WAR FRONT tonight and could not explain why the horse drifted in the markets in the manner it did, nor could he explain the shortening in the markets on NANDINE ROAD as this market move was not stable inspired. A post race veterinary examination of WAR FRONT failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 3: A&R Refrigeration And Air Conditioning Benchmark 70 H'cap – 1625m

EXPLODED – Subject to further submissions, Trainer B. Lockwood was fined $100 for declaring jockey R. Goltz as the rider of the gelding without confirming this engagement. Subsequently, T. Williams was substituted as the rider of the horse.

VICTORVETO – Trainer R. Lyford advised that the gelding would be ridden further off the speed than at its most recent start. Subsequently, the gelding raced in a midfield position.

YAMANNERS - Laid in from the 400m.

BAY DREAMER – Raced wide throughout.
Race 5: National Hotel Toowoomba Maiden Plate – 1200m

MCDINGA – As apprentice R. Ride’s arrival at the track was delayed, S. Drake was substituted as the rider of the gelding. Stewards accepted R. Ride’s explanation for her late arrival. Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 950m and again near the 850m.

WHYNOTROC – Slightly slow to begin and was further hampered when tightened for room shortly after the start and as a result lost ground. Improved onto heels near the 400m and was forced to shift wider on the track. On return to scale, jockey G. Geran reported his mount raced greenly in the early and middle stages of the event.
