DEEP DOWN – Steadied to avoid the heels of another runner near the 100m. Raced wide throughout.

CLEVER CHLOE – When questioned regarding the disappointing performance, jockey S. Bogenhuber advised that after beginning well she obtained a forward position and travelled strongly on the bit throughout the event, however when placed under pressure rounding the home turn, the filly failed to respond to her riding and proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination revealed shin soreness in both forelegs. Trainer T. Sears advised that in light of the veterinary report it was now his intention to spell the horse immediately. A swab sample was taken.

Race 2: Hot FM Maiden Plate – 1625m

WHAT A TIGER – Trainer P. Overell was fined $100 for failing to provide the identification card for the horse.

READY FOR ROYALTY – Slow to begin.

WHEN IN DOUBT – Slow to begin.

BRONZE TIARA – Raced wide throughout. Apprentice B. Stower was questioned by stewards as to her reasoning for shifting to a 3 wide position after she had previously established running one off the fence in the early stages, which caused her to race 3 wide without cover throughout the event. Apprentice Stower advised that her mount began better than she had expected, and after obtaining a position behind FLYING SENORITA one off the fence, the horse, in her opinion, commenced to race keenly so she elected to shift out to improve as she felt she may have been able to obtain a position one off the fence forward of FLYING SENORITA during the middle stages of the race, however as that position never eventuated she was forced to race 3 wide throughout the event. Having had the opportunity to review the film, apprentice Stower agreed with stewards that it would have been more advantageous to maintain a trailing position behind FLYING SENORITA rather than shift wider on the track. Stewards did not feel however that the ride fell below the required standard and therefore took the matter no further.

DREAMTIME GAL – Stewards questioned apprentice J. Worley in relation to the disappointing performance of the mare, which after opening favourite on course drifted noticeably. Apprentice Worley advised that after beginning well she obtained a forward position and travelled comfortably throughout the event, however approaching the home turn when commencing to be ridden along, the mare failed to respond to her riding and, in her opinion, proved disappointing. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.

Race 3: XXXX Gold Class 4 H’cap – 1625m

Trainer Mr B. Currie was questioned in relation to the late nomination, acceptance and subsequent scratching of MASSIVE ATTACK and LONHRO’S SPIRIT in this event. After hearing submissions from Mr Currie, stewards advised him they were not entirely satisfied with his explanation, however did not feel the evidence presented met the requisite standard to issue a charge against Mr Currie for a breach of the rules.

MANHATTAN ROCK – Stewards questioned L. Tilley in relation to the disappointing performance of the gelding. He advised that he was instructed to ride the horse either in the leading position or outside the leader if possible, however he added that as the horse failed to show sufficient speed, he was forced to take a trailing position during the event. Apprentice Tilley went on to say that the gelding never travelled strongly on the bit at any stage of the event and when placed under pressure failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing. Trainer Mr B. Currie expressed disappointment with the performance of the gelding, which he attributed to the horse not running out a strong 1600m in today’s event and also the horse not being entirely comfortable on the firm track today. Mr Currie added that in light of today’s performance he would now freshen up the gelding and drop it back in distance for its next race start. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities and a swab sample was taken.

Race 4: Neil Mansell Concrete Maiden H'cap – 1200m

ONE MORE CHANCE – With L. Tarrant not riding at today’s meeting, S. Apthorpe was declared as the replacement rider of that particular horse, however when S. Apthorpe failed to arrive on course in time for this event, A. Fancourt was subsequently substituted as the rider of that horse. After questioning trainer M. Nolan and jockey Apthorpe in relation to the matter, stewards took the matter no further. On return to scale, rider A. Fancourt reported that her mount hung out from the 400m. When questioned in relation to the improved performance, trainer M. Nolan advised that at the gelding’s first race start on 26 September 2015, after being slow to begin the gelding was forced to race very wide throughout the event, which he felt was a major contributing factor to the horse’s performance on that occasion. Mr Nolan went on to advise that the gelding had worked well in preparation for today’s event and as such expected a forward showing today.

Newport in relation to his riding of the gelding and as to his reasons for shifting wider on the track than necessary rounding the home turn, which resulted in BEAUXBATON, the eventual winner of the race, securing clear running to his inside. Apprentice Newport advised that he had commenced to ride RICH TRADITION along with the whip prior to rounding the home turn, which resulted in him shifting wider than necessary. Stewards noted the explanation, however advised him that, in their opinion, his riding was ill-judged at that point of the race, particularly for an apprentice of his experience, and that at all times he would be expected to ride in a more competitive manner so as not to leave his riding open to question. Stewards further advised apprentice Newport that this ride would be referred to the Racing Queensland Training Department for their attention.
