Race 1: Neil Mansell Transport CG&E Maiden H'cap – 1000m

HAYIL MATADOR – Declared a late scratching at 3.45 pm when no rider was available.

HEKAWI – Declared a late scratching at 4.40 pm after dislodging its rider, B. Derbyshire, upon entering the track. The horse then galloped a considerable distance riderless. B. Derbyshire was uninjured as a result of this incident. As a consequence, the start of this race was delayed.

Subsequent to the event, all monies invested on HEKAWI were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable. .

1 cent in the dollar for the Win #9
1 cent in the dollar for place of winner #9
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #5
2 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #7

SP bets are not subject to deductions

Correct weight was delayed to allow stewards to determine if JOHNNY BE QUICK, which reared high in the barriers, dislodging its rider, had been afforded a fair start. Stewards, after reviewing the patrol footage and taking evidence from trainer Mr L. Hatch, starter Mr P. Brennan and jockey S. Bogenhuber, it was determined just prior to the start being effected the gelding commenced to rear and as a result dislodging its rider, becoming cast and taking no part in the event. Stewards deemed the actions of JOHNNY BE QUICK were the sole reason for the horse taking no part in the event and it was deemed a definite starter and correct weight was semaphored on the Judge’s numbers.

TYCOON’S PARTY – Stewards opened an inquiry into the reason for apprentice M. Schrapel being dislodged from the gelding near the 650m. After taking evidence from jockey G. Geran (THE HURRICANE) and apprentice R. Payne (CASPERCCINO), stewards adjourned the inquiry to a time and date to be fixed to allow apprentice Schrapel to be present as he had been transported to hospital for further observation.
