Race 1: BUNDABERG RUM CLASS 2 H'CAP – 1050M

The start was delayed when PEARLY COURT lunged forward in the barriers, resulting in the front gates opening. PEARLY COURT was removed from the barriers, examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. BAY DUKE, which made heavy contact with the front gates, was also examined by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start.

BAY DUKE – On returning to scale the gelding was noted to have the presence of blood in one nostril. As a post-race veterinary examination confirmed the presence of blood was a result of external trauma, no action was taken.

BALKAN BAMBINO – Began awkwardly.

DAZET – Raced wide in the early stages.

DEEP CROSSING – Raced wide throughout.

Race 2: CRACKER PRINT & PAPER BM70 H'CAP – 1200M

JUST AS LOYAL – Slow to begin.

HEART OF MANY – Raced wide for the majority of the event.

BAREMIN – Bumped with another runner on jumping away. Raced in restricted room for a short distance approaching the 900m.

BRAVE DAZZLER – Stewards questioned apprentice M. Schrapel in relation to his riding from the 700m until rounding the home turn. Apprentice Schrapel advised Stewards that at that point of the race when trailing NEVETUS, it was his plan to shift wider on the track to improve into the race, however as a result of having runners closely positioned to his outside, he was unable to obtain this position and therefore he was forced to look for inside runs. When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to position his mount closer to the heels of NEVETUS from approaching the 600m, apprentice Schrapel advised that as a result of looking to shift wider on the track he did lose contact with the heels of NEVETUS at that point and having had the opportunity to review the Stewards’ footage, agreed with Stewards that it would have been more advantageous for him to apply greater pressure to his mount from that point of the race as it would have improved his position approaching the home turn.

NEVETUS – Bumped with another runner on jumping away.

LORD BEAUFORT – Slow to begin.

CONHENRI – Bled from both nostrils post-race. Trainer G. Maroney was advised that the gelding will be ineligible to start for 3 months, and prior to resuming racing must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a steward.

Race 3: HANNAS QTIS 3YO BM65 H'CAP – 1200M

LOST CLASSIC – After being caught wide in the early stages, S. Bogenhuber restrained her mount approaching the 800m to a midfield position one off the fence.

FRENCH SONG – Laid out rounding the home turn.

RUBY RAY – Stewards questioned apprentice B. Stower as to whether there was an opportunity for her to obtain running between FRENCH SONG and KIM NOIR approaching the 100m when there appeared to be an opportunity to do so. Apprentice Stower advised that while she was aware there was a run between those runners at that point of the race, as her mount did not quicken as she had expected, she was unable to fully take advantage of this run. She further added that when attempting to obtain this run, jockey Geran, to her outside, shifted his mount in marginally and as she felt his mount may continue to shift ground and the run may close, she therefore elected to shift to the outside of his heels to obtain clear running in the run to the finish.

BAM’S PRINCESS – Laid out rounding the home turn.

CASSE BLEU – Raced wide throughout.

Race 4: HOT FM MAIDEN PLATE – 1200M

GREY NOT BLACK – Began awkwardly. Laid out rounding the home turn.

DUBLEO’S LAD – Held up for clear running rounding the home turn and lost ground.

RED GLAZE – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start.

NAME AND SHAME – Bumped shortly after the start by TURKANA, which shifted in, and as a result raced in restricted room for a short distance, and then a short distance later was forced to check when further tightened for room.

SPUN HARD – Tightened for room and checked near the 1100m when racing to the inside of LEILA’S CALL, which shifted in when not completely clear. Apprentice H. Phillips, the rider of LEILA’S CALL, was reprimanded as a result. Raced 4 wide without cover throughout.

COOL DRAFTS – Slow to begin and as a result settled further back in the field than anticipated.

DRUM STYX Raced wide throughout.

SHE’S A KICKER – Raced in restricted room for a short distance shortly after the start. Stewards questioned trainer M. Kropp in relation to the tactics adopted on the horse whereby it led tonight’s event, which is in contrast to its recent racing pattern. Mr Kropp advised that from the wide barriers at its two most recent starts, it settled in a rearward position, however tonight from the better barrier he expected the filly to be closer in the run, however was somewhat surprised to see it leading tonight’s event. He added that the step up in distance from 1050m to 1200m tonight further assisted the filly in settling in a more forward position. Stewards noted the explanation.

Following the running of this event the track was downgraded to SOFT 5 retrospective.

Race 5: MOORE STEPHENS 0-62 H'CAP – 2150M

FIFTH COLUMN – Raced wide in the early stages and then was allowed to stride forward and obtain a position outside the leader near the 1300m.

MINE WITH LIME – Reluctant to proceed to the start and proved difficult to load. Shifted out abruptly of its own accord near the 1600m, resulting in rider B. Newport becoming unbalanced. Following the event trainer M. Kropp advised that at this stage it is the intention to give the horse a freshen up before its next start.

BRIGLIADORO – Obliged to race wide from the 800m. Laid in rounding the home turn.

MISS JALAPENO – Raced ungenerously in the early stages and near the 1600m had to be steadied to avoid the heels of another runner. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the filly to have a poor post-race recovery. Trainer D. Lee advised Stewards that the horse has a history of making an abnormal respiratory sound. Stewards advised Ms Lee that she would be required to obtain a veterinary clearance for the horse, including the results of an endoscopic examination prior to next racing, and furthermore the horse will be required to trial to the satisfaction of Stewards. Ms Lee advised that the horse will be sent for an immediate spell.

Race 6: SHANNON SIGN COMPANY CLASS 1 H'CAP – 1300M

THERE’S NEMO – Slow to begin.
