Race 1: NAUMANN ELECTRICAL CLASS 3 PLATE – 1050M

KAHNEMAN – Began awkwardly.  Raced wide without cover throughout.

MADIBA – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.  On return to scale jockey Beau Appo could offer no explanation for the gelding’s poor performance today.  Trainer’s  representative, Mr L. Hatch, could also offer no explanation for the performance however, based on the run tonight, the stable will now reconsider the gelding’s racing future.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to be coughing, however no apparent abnormalities were identified.

BIG BRITCHES – Stewards permitted the mare to race in winkers, which were not advertised as part of the horse’s gear, on the assurance of Trainer L. Fullarton that the horse usually races with this gear.

CAPTAIN LEO – When questioned regarding the improved performance of the gelding from its most recent start, Trainer B. Currie advised that the horse was not suited to the firm track conditions at Warwick at its last start.  He added that the horse, which is a Class 2 runner, was beaten by an established open class horse, and for that reason he was not entirely disappointed with that performance.  Mr Currie also advised that, prior to its most recent start, the gelding’s form was sound and he therefore expected a forward showing in tonight’s event.

RED HOT SECRET – Steadied from heels at the 600m.

JET SUKI – On return to scale jockey K. Yoshida reported that, after beginning reasonably, the mare obtained a midfield position and travelled comfortably throughout the event, however when placed under pressure, his mount failed to respond to his riding and proved disappointing.  A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have sustained abrasions to both hind bumpers.

Race 2: CR CONCRETING CLASS 1 H’CAP – 1300M

BERGERAC – Laid in under pressure over the concluding stages.

BLACK CRUSADE – On return to scale, jockey N. Tomizawa reported that from the wide barrier he was able to obtain a position one out one back in the early stages.  He added that the gelding travelled strongly throughout the event, however when pressured in the home straight failed to respond to his riding and, in his opinion, raced somewhat flat tonight.  Trainer K. Kemp advised that in light of tonight’s performance the horse will now be spelled immediately.

AKUA – Slow to begin.  Raced wide with cover from the 800m.

ONLY LEONNIE – Raced wide throughout.

SHREWVELON – Began awkwardly.

EXCITEMENT LEVELS – Stewards accepted the explanation provided by Trainer T. Webb regarding the late declaration of K. Yoshida as rider.

Race 3: MOB-ARC MAIDEN H’CAP – 1200M

VELLEITY – Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination as the horse was racing first up after twelve months, and was passed fit to start.  On return to scale, jockey K. Yoshida advised that as the horse was first up from a significant spell it would derive a significant fitness benefit from tonight’s run and, in his opinion, would also be suited by the addition of blinkers.

MUSTARRID – Hung out rounding the home turn.

HOL’S SPRINGSTEEN – Steadied, and shifted outwards, to avoid the heels of another runner at the 900m.  Raced wide throughout.

CANUNGRA KID – Buffeted between runners shortly after the start.  Steadied, and shifted outwards, to avoid the heels of another runner at the 900m.

INDE ROAR – Hung out and shifted wider on the track during the middle stages despite the efforts of its rider.

Race 4: REMEMBERING PETER MCDOUGALL BENCHMARK 70 H’CAP – 1200M

ZIP TO THE MOON – Steadied from heels and shifted in in the early stages, bumping another runner.  Stewards questioned Apprentice N. Keal, in the presence of jockey’s advocate Mr K. Waller, with respect to his riding of ZIP TO THE MOON.  Apprentice Keal advised that he was instructed to ride the horse quietly in the early stages to obtain a position in the second half of the field and, for that reason, he attempted to restrain the gelding shortly after the start in an endeavour to comply with those instructions.  Apprentice Keal added that because his mount began better than anticipated and was racing keenly whilst racing wide, he was unable to restrain the gelding to a position trailing PINBALL DAWN.  Apprentice Keal added that, when placed under pressure, ZIP TO THE MOON then failed to quicken and ran on only fairly in the home straight.  Stewards advised Apprentice Keal that in the early stages of the event he had erred by either not allowing his mount to stride forward to cross PINBALL DAWN or not making an earlier effort to restrain to a position trailing PINBALL DAWN.  This error resulted in ZIP TO THE MOON being forced to race wide throughout the event, however bearing in mind the instructions issued and Apprentice Keal’s inexperience as an apprentice rider, Stewards noted the explanation.  Stewards further advised Apprentice Keal that, in their opinion, he would be expected in future to place his mount under greater pressure from the 600m when racing at the tail of the field in an endeavour to improve his position.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

PINBALL DAWN – Bumped by another runner in the early stages.

Race 5: K&R PLUMBING SUPPLIES CLASS 2 H’CAP – 1625M

SPANISH FELLA – After being caught wide in the early stages, jockey N. Tomizawa restrained his mount to a position towards the tail of the field in a one off position near the 1300m.

BLUE STAR – Bled both nostrils.  Ineligible to race for 3 months and prior to starting again must gallop satisfactorily over 1000m in the presence of a Steward.

Race 6: WESTERN MUSTANGS RLFC QTIS 2YO MAIDEN H’CAP – 870M

THE LAWYER – Began awkwardly and shifted out, bumping another runner.  Laid in throughout and proved difficult to ride out in the home straight.  Bumped the running rail near the 150m.

LION COMING – Slow to begin.

PERFECT RAIN – Began awkwardly.  Raced in restricted room for a short distance near the 700m.  When laying in near the 150m was forced to steady from the heels of UNIQUE MAGIC, which shifted out marginally.

UNIQUE MAGIC – Tightened for room on jumping away, and blundered shortly after the start.

REDNAZAR – Bumped the rail in the parading yard, was examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start.  Began awkwardly.  Laid in in the early stages.

Race 7: WHOLESALE HORSEWEAR HOUSE MAIDEN PLATE – 1850M

The declaration of correct weight was delayed while Stewards considered an objection lodged following the race by Jockey Beau Appo and trainer B. Squair (ROOSTER HUNTER) which finished 2nd, against BOUCHARD being declared the winner, alleging interference near the 150m.  After taking evidence from the parties involved, viewing the official patrol films and taking into account their own observations, Stewards found that near the 150m BOUCHARD shifted in and bumped ROOSTER HUNTER resulting in that horse becoming unbalanced.  Stewards were of the opinion that had this interference not occurred, and bearing in mind the short half head margin between the runners at the conclusion of the event, ROOSTER HUNTER would have finished ahead of BOUCHARD.  Accordingly, the protest was upheld and the placings were amended as follows: 1st ROOSTER HUNTER, 2nd BOUCHARD, 3rd SIR EARLSTOUN and 4th HAVEN DUKE.  Correct weight was declared on the amended numbers.

SHADOW EMPIRE – Bumped by another runner when exiting the home straight on the first occasion and then commenced to hang out and shifted wider on the track.  Bumped another runner near the 1200m.  Raced wide throughout.

JAREL’S DRAGON – Threw its head in the air at the start and was then tightened for room shortly after the start.  Placed in restricted room near the 500m.

A TISKET A TASKET – Began awkwardly and shifted out bumping another runner, and as a result lost ground.  Laid out rounding the turn out of the home straight on the first occasion.  When racing keenly near the 1200m, shifted out to avoid heels, bumped another runner and then raced wide from that point onwards.
