Race 1: TOOWOOMBA WEST SPECIAL SCHOOL P&C CLASS 1 HCAP – 1300M

THE BARRACUDA – Tightened for room and eased when RUNAWAY RULER (Apprentice G. Mitchell) shifted out when not completely clear. Apprentice G. Mitchell was reprimanded as a result of this incident.

DRUMMERS CHANCE – Made contact with the enclosure fence during the preliminary. The gelding was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon and passed fit to start. Slow to begin.

EXPLOSIVE BELLE – Stewards questioned Trainer M. Nolan in relation to the tactics adopted in that the mare settled further forward in tonights event, which is contrary to the tactics adopted during the horses most recent start. Mr. Nolan advised that his instructions have always been for the horse to lead, and he indicated that he was surprised that the horse settled further back in the field during its last start. Mr. Nolan added that the mare did lead two starts ago and during previous events. Stewards noted the explanation.

MAKE NO MISTAKE – Tightened for room at the start and lost ground.

RUNAWAY RULER – Steadied from the heels of a tiring runner near the 350m.

GENERAL COS – Stewards questioned trainer Mr. L. Fraser in relation to the winning performance of the gelding which was heavily backed in this event. Mr. Fraser advised that the horse had performed well at its last start at Dalby, and he was shocked the horse was such a wide price in early markets. Mr. Fraser added that he had expected a forward showing from the gelding based on its most recent start, and advised Stewards that he had placed a wager on the horse to be successful tonight. Stewards noted the explanation.

Race 2: CNK ELECTRICAL PTY LTD CANNONBALL SERIES – HEAT – BENCHMARK 75 HCAP

ISIS MAGIC – Bumped on jumping away.

TINS POCKET – Bumped on jumping away.

BRAT ATTACK – Stewards questioned Trainer M. Eggleston in relation to the seemingly disappointing performance of the gelding. Mr. Eggleston agreed that the performance was disappointing, and advised that on the Thursday prior to tonights event, the gelding worked exceptionally well in fast time. He added that, in retrospect, this gallop may have taken the edge off the horse tonight. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

BRAVE DAZZLER – Slow to begin.

FAVORITE SHADOW – As the gelding was resuming from an extended spell, it was examined by the veterinary surgeon prior to saddling, and passed fit to start.

Race 3: BROWN & HURLEY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN HCAP – 1200M

As jockey Bradley Appo was ill and unable to fulfil his engagement on SIDEREUS DISCORD, Apprentice J. Woodhouse was substituted as rider when no other senior rider was available. Jockey Appo was reprimanded for failing to notify Stewards that he was unable to fulfil his engagement on the horse.

CYCLONE PATH – Jumped with its head in the air and lost ground, and was then steadied from heels shortly after the start. Stewards questioned Apprentice N. Keal with respect to his riding of the gelding. Appentice Keal advised that, on jumping away, the horse was tightened and lost ground and, as a result, settled further back in the field than he had anticipated. Stewards also sought an explanation from Apprentice Keal as to the reason he restrained his mount for some distance passing the 900m when their appeared to be an opportunity to allow the horse to stride forward to a closer trailing position behind WEWANNAWINNA. Apprentice Keal advised that at this point in the race the horse was racing keenly and resented being restrained and, for that reason, it raced with its head in the air for some distance. Apprentice Keal added that near the 500m he was held up at the heels of a tiring runner and was forced to wait for a horse to his outside to improve before he could secure clear running. Apprentice Keal also added that in the home straight, when able to secure clear running, his mount made good late ground. Stewards noted the explanation.

SHARE THE MAGIC – Improved onto the heels of another runner, and shifted wider on the track, near the 700m. On return to scale, Apprentice H. English reported that her mount was inclined to hang in from the 600m, and proved difficult to ride out in the home straight.

MESSAGE TO MARTHA – Laid in in the home straight.

SIDEREUS DISCORD – Slow to begin.

SHES UP BEAT – Raced wide for the majority.

Race 4: WIN LOCAL NEWS MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M

PICS PEARL dislodged its rider upon entering the track, and galloped a considerable distance before being recaptured. The mare was declared a late scratching at 6.47pm. Following the event, Stewards ordered that all monies invested on PICS PEARL be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:

3 cents in the dollar for the win #3
5 cents in the dollar for place of winner #3
2 cents in the dollar for 2nd place #8
6 cents in the dollar for 3rd place #11

SP bets are not subject to deductions.

BUCHINSKI – Made heavy contact with the enclosure fence whilst parading. The gelding was subsequently examined by the veterinary surgeon upon arrival at the barriers, and passed fit to start. Raced wide without cover for the majority of the event.

STELLAR POWER – Stewards questioned Trainer B. Dais in relation to the seemingly improved performance of the gelding. Mr. Dais advised that during its first start in a race in May of this year the horse, from the wide gate, had a tendency to hang out. He added that following that run the horse was spelled, and has worked well in preparation for tonights event. He further added that, in his opinion, the race experience the horse had gained from its first start and, more importantly, being able to obtain the lead on the rail tonight, were the major contributing factors to the geldings improved performance. Stewards noted the explanation.

KING DINISTY – Momentarily steadied near the 900m.

HARMONISING – Began awkwardly and, as a result, settled further back than anticipated.

SOLO ARTIST – Slow into stride. Raced ungenerously whilst being restrained in the early stages.

TRACTION – Mr. J Thomas, the trainer of TRACTION, advised that in light of the horses performance tonight, he will now review its racing future.

Race 5: B&K EARTHMOVING PTY LTD CLASS 4 HCAP – 1200M

WORLD SERIES – Slow to begin, and then failed to muster early speed.

Race 6: TRUCKS ON THE RUN PTY LTD BENCHMARK 65 HCAP – 2000M

After viewing the Stewards patrol footage, N. Thomas, the rider of LITTLE WEALTH, placed 2nd by the Judge, lodged an objection against HUNDRED being declared the winner, alleging interference from the 300m. After taking evidence from all parties and viewing the videos, Stewards found that whilst HUNDRED did hang out rounding the home turn and shifted wider on the track, there was no contact between either runner, or any interference suffered to, LITTLE WEALTH at this point in the race. Stewards further found that in the home straight any contact between the runners was inconsequential to the finishing position of LITTLE WEALTH, and therefore Stewards dismissed the objection.  Correct weight was declared on the Judges semaphored numbers.

LITTLE WEALTH – Buffeted by another runner near the 600m.

MCGILL – Forced wider on the track by another runner near the 800m, and raced wide for the remainder of the event.

HUNDRED – Hung out from the 500m and proved difficult to ride. Trainer B. Lunney was advised that a warning will be placed on the horses racing manners.

HIGH AFRICAINE – Trainer B. Currie expressed disappointment with the performance of the mare tonight and he advised that, in light of the performance, he would now spell the mare as he believes the horse has now come to the end of its preparation.

SIDEWALK TALK – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.

ST JAMES SQUARE – Buffeted by another runner whilst attempting to secure clear running near the 600m.
