DISTRICT – Bumped at the start. On return to scale, jockey K. STELLAR POWER – Bumped at the start. Raced wide without cover throughout the event. Apprentice N. Keal could offer no explanation for the apparent disappointing performance, however he did state that the gelding was forced to cover extra ground in tonight’s event as a result of racing 3 wide without cover.

JUPARA PRINCE – Stood awkwardly as the start was effected, and lost ground on jumping away.

Race 3: BLUESCOPE STEEL BENCHMARK 60 H’CAP – 1850M

FIRST STIMULUS – Stood flat-footed at the start and lost ground.

WALTZ IN FLIGHT – A post-race veterinary examination revealed the horse to have bled from one nostril. Connections were advised that the horse must perform satisfactorily in a 1000m gallop in the presence of a Steward prior to resuming racing.

OVER THE VENTURE – On return to scale, Apprentice B. Nothdurft reported that his mount had a tendency to overrace when unable to find cover in the early and middle stages of the event.  Apprentice B. Nothdurft was reprimanded for using his whip in consecutive strides prior to the 100m.

Race 7: NEIL MANSELL TRANSPORT MAIDEN H’CAP – 1000M

AQUA DELAGO – Prior to the event, connections advised that it is their intention for the horse, which is having its first start for the stable, to make use of the inside barrier tonight and settle further forward in the field than at its only previous start. Began awkwardly and lost ground before being ridden aggressively to obtain a position behind the leader. Held up for clear running approaching and rounding the home turn.

BOLD TEMPTATION – Stewards will interview Trainer R. Hay at a later date in respect of the improved performance of the gelding.

GALLOPINAKIS – Stewards questioned co-trainer Mr. B. Lunney and Apprentice A. Spinks with respect to the tactics adopted on the gelding which led the field by a considerable distance in the early and middle stages.  Apprentice Spinks advised that he was instructed to lead on the gelding tonight and endeavour to make the race a genuine staying event.  Apprentice Spinks added that after beginning well he rode forward to obtain the leading position however shortly after exiting the home straight on the first occasion the gelding commenced to overrace and, despite his efforts to restrain the horse, established a considerable lead on the remainder of the field.  Apprentice Spinks went on to say that approaching the 700m he asked his mount to improve into the race in an endeavour to comply with the instructions to ensure the race was  genuine staying test. Mr. Lunney confirmed the instructions issued and advised that as the gelding was some six weeks between runs this contributed to its overracing during the early and middle stages. Stewards noted the explanations tendered in relation to GALLOPINAKIS establishing a considerable lead until near the 700m as it was evident on the patrol footage that the gelding was overracing despite Apprentice Spinks’ efforts to restrain until that point of the race. However, having had the opportunity to review the patrol footage, Apprentice Spinks agreed with Stewards that he erred in placing the horse under pressure at the 700m and further agreed that it would have been more advantageous, given the lead the horse had established, to wait longer before placing the horse under pressure. Stewards, bearing in mind Apprentice Spinks’ relative inexperience, took the matter no further other than to refer this ride to the Racing Queensland apprentice training department for review with Apprentice Spinks.

GOODORSE – Stewards will speak to Trainer J. Gleeson at a later date with respect to the performance of the gelding which tailed off.

REINA – Shifted wider on the track and lost ground after awkwardly making the crossing near the 1500m.
