Race 1: SHERRIN RENTALS BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1100m

MILL ROSSA- Was declared a late scratching at 4:01pm after being injured on route to the course. Trainer M Currie was advised the gelding would require a veterinary certificate of fitness prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

EASY COME- Stood flat footed as the start was effected and lost ground. Trainer G Barbierato was advised the gelding would require a further barrier certificate prior to again being permitted to start in a race. Raced ungenerously in the early stages. Laid in passing the 800m despite the efforts of its rider tightening AMAZINGLY (J Woodhouse) which was obliged to restrain. Raced wide for the majority. Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any abnormalities.

LAURIE- Began awkwardly and was crowded for room soon after. Laid out marginally passing the 800m contributing to the tightening of AMAZINGLY (J Woodhouse) which was obliged to restrain.

AMAZINGLY- Began awkwardly and was crowded for room soon after. Obliged to restrain passing the 800m after being tightened for room between LAURIE (S Bogenhuber) which laid out marginally and EASY COME (App T Townsend) which laid in despite the efforts of its rider. As Stewards determined that the incident was predominantly a result of the racing manners of EASY COME no action was taken other than to advise all riders to exercise greater care in similar circumstances.

I’MTWENTYFOURSEVEN- Performed disappointingly. App M Savva stated that, in her opinion, the gelding travelled only fairly throughout before failing to let down as expected. Trainer K Kemp advised that the stable had expected a more forward showing and connections would now consider the geldings immediate racing future. Stewards noted the comments.

PRINCE OF MOROCCO- Commenced to tire from the 500m, laid in approaching the 400m and finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer K Stabe was advised the gelding would be required to trial prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

GEOTIME- After being caught four and five wide in the early stages elected to remain wide and in a forward position rather than restraining before making a forward move leaving the 800m obtaining a position three wide outside the leaders near the 600m. Stewards questioned App T Townsend in relation to the tactics adopted, specifically that there appeared to be an opportunity to attempt to settle in behind the leaders in a position one off the inside running rail with cover approaching the 800m. App Townsend advised that though she would have preferred to have settled in a position behind the leaders she assessed there to be inadequate room for her mount to obtain that position and elected to persist with her forward move. Stewards noted the explanation. Laid in approaching the 400m. App T Townsend was reprimanded under the provisions of AR132(7)(a)(ii) in that shed did use her whip on 6 occasions, 1 more than permitted, prior to the 100m.

LORD OF DARKNESS- Raced wide in the early stages. Shifted in passing the 1100m before being corrected by its rider. App Townsend subsequently pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a) with her license being suspended for a period of 8 days to commence 3rd April 2022 up to and including the 10th April 2022. In determining penalty Stewards considered App Townsends good record in relation to the rule, her guilty plea and the severity and carelessness of the interference which were deemed to be in the low range. App Townsend was advised of her right to an internal review.
