GENERAL

As App A Donald was not riding at tonight’s meeting due to injury rider replacements were made as per Stewards race-day summary. App Donald was advised she would require a medical clearance prior to again being permitted to ride in a race or trial.

As App O O’Donnell was not riding at tonight’s meeting due to personal reasons and Jockey K Zechner was unable to fulfill his riding engagements due to transport difficulties rider replacements were made as per Stewards race-day summary.

Stewards permitted the following overweights at tonight’s meeting:
Race 7- Jockey A Allen +1/2kg

Trainer S Kirkwood was fined the sum of $100 under the provisions of AR227(a) for failing to comply with the rider overweight directive, in that the request for the overweight was not made by the prescribed time.

Race 1: BAARTZ ELECTRICAL OAKEY CLASS 3 HANDICAP 1200m

LAUNCH PAD- Trainer D Bell was reprimanded under the provisions of AR165(1) for failing to have the gelding on course by the prescribed time. In determining penalty Stewards noted the fact the gelding was only marginally late in arriving on course to be somewhat of a mitigating factor. A pre-race blood sample was taken for analysis. Bumped near the 400m. Shifted in and away from heels leaving the 400m.

DOCTOR TEEKAY- Began awkwardly and bumped. Laid out whilst over-racing near the 900m. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a slow post-race recovery.

ALLORA ENZO (NZ)- Bumped passing the 400m.

CALGARY KING- Began awkwardly. Jockey A Thompson pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR131(a)  in that approaching the 300m he did direct his mount out under riding tightening the running of DAZZLING FLASH, before continuing to shift out across that runners line causing it to be checked and lose its rightful running. Jockey Thompsons license to ride in races was subsequently suspended for a period of 13 days to commence 11 October 2023 up to and including 23 October 2023. In considering penalty Stewards took into account Jockey Thompsons record in relation to the rule and his guilty plea and forthright evidence as well as the determination that the degree of carelessness and severity of interference was in the mid-to-high range. Jockey Thompson was advised of his right to an appeal.

IT'S A MISTAKE- Bumped on jumping before being bumped again soon after.

PIZZO- Raced wide for the majority. Laid in leaving the 400m. Obliged to restrain off heels and shift out approaching the 300m.

WOWIT'S WILLYWONKA- Raced wide for the majority.

DAZZLING FLASH- Bumped soon after the start. Raced keenly when crowded near the 900m. Tightened for room before being obliged to check and lose its rightful running approaching the 300m.

Race 2: TREVOR MANTEUFEL @ RE/MAX SUCCESS SELLS EVERYWHERE BENCHMARK 70 HANDICAP 1000m

Declaration of correct weight was delayed to allow Trainer M Faulkner (KOSCIUSKO) to view footage of the home straight to ascertain whether grounds for any objection were present. After viewing the footage Mr Faulkner elected not to proceed with any objection and correct weight was declared on the Judges numbers.

KOSCIUSKO- Began awkwardly. Inconvenienced near the 150m having to be steadied and shifted wider.

TURBOART- Began awkwardly. Bumped the inside running rail near the 150m.

LITTLE TOWN BLUES- Slow to begin. Whilst racing keenly was marginally crowded near the 900m and bumped. Improved onto heels having to be steadied near the 800m when racing keenly. Raced wide for the majority.

NO GOING BACK- Shifted out under pressure near the 150m inconveniencing KOSCIUSKO. App O Webb was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater urgency in straightening her mounts in similar circumstances as a result of this incident.

HAMILTON HILL- Stewards permitted Jockey J Stanley to be substituted as rider of the mare when no Apprentice rider was available. Blundered severely on jumping and lost ground. Bumped passing the 900m.

PATRICK'S ME MATE- Stewards accepted the reasons tendered by Trainer S Mesken for the late declaration of rider on the gelding. Raced wide for the majority. Finished tailed off. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer S Mesken was advised the gelding’s nominations at provincial and metro meetings would now be rejected until such time as its country form improves.

Following the running of the event the racing surface was upgraded to a Good 3.

Race 3: BLACK ISUZU UTE CLASS 1 HANDICAP         870m

MR WANDJI- Slow into stride before being bumped on jumping. Obliged to ease when tightened for room approaching the 600m before having to be steadied after improving onto heels soon after.

SINGAPORE LADY- Slow into stride.

STORY OF STELLA- Momentarily crowded passing the 200m.

KWAMI- Began awkwardly and shifted in. Approaching the 600m, whilst laying in, shifted in dictating SWISS BABE in across the running of MR WANDJI which was obliged to ease. App S Champkin was severely reprimanded under the provisions of AR131(a) and advised to exercise greater effort in preventing her mounts from shifting ground in similar circumstances. Laid in under pressure down the running.

SWISS BABE- Whilst laying in approaching the 600m was taken in by another runner which was laying in. Momentarily held up rounding the home turn.

NAUGHTY WORDS- Bumped on jumping.

JATOBI- Underwent a pre-race veterinary examination after becoming cast in the barrier and was subsequently declared a late scratching at 6:11pm on veterinary advice. Prior to the declaration of correct weight all monies invested on the gelding were ordered to be refunded with the following deductions applicable to all successful wagers placed prior to 6:11pm:

0cents in the dollar for the win
1cents in the dollar for the place on the winner
1cents in the dollar for 2nd place
1cents in the dollar for 3rd place

Trainer R Connolly was advised the gelding would be required to obtain a further barrier certificate after being provided with a veterinary clearance prior to again being permitted to start in a race.

MINOKAWA- Raced wide for the majority. Eased down over the final 100m. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey A Thompson advised that, in his opinion, the gelding may have choked down somewhat over the concluding stages. Trainer N Beck advised connections would now consider the mares immediate racing future.

Race 4: SUE EDWARDS ELDERS REAL ESTATE BENCHMARK 60 HANDICAP 1625m

ELIZANO- Raced keenly for the majority.

ASCOT ROAD- Commenced to lose ground from the 600m. Finished tailed off. A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Trainer J Sims advised the gelding would now likely be retired. Nonetheless, Mr Sims was advised the geldings nominations at metro and provincial meetings would now be refused until such time as its country form improves. Jockey N Fazackerley was fined the sum of $200 under the provisions of AR132(6)(c) for use of the whip on his mount when out of contention.

DROP THE PILOT- Raced keenly when being restrained in the early stages in an effort to obtain a position with cover closer to the inside running rail. Obliged to momentarily ease off heels when racing keenly near the 800m. Momentarily held up for clear running approaching the 200m.

EPICURIOUS- Stewards acceded to a request from Trainer C Geran to permit Jockey G Geran be substituted as rider of the mare when App A Donald was unable to fulfil her engagement as no other apprentice was available at that time. Slow into stride. Over-race on heels near the 1400m. Momentarily held up on the heels near the 600m before again momentarily held up on the heels of a tiring runner near the 400m. Obliged to shift wider on entering the home straight to obtain clear running. Performed below market expectations. Underwent a post-race veterinary examination which failed to reveal any significant abnormalities. Jockey G Geran advised that, in his opinion, the somewhat checkered run from the 600m left the gelding flat when asked for an effort in the home straight.
