STEWARDS REPORT

TOOWOOMBA TURF CLUB

TOOWOOOMBA – SATURDAY, 27 APRIL 2024

WEATHER – FINE            TRACK RATING – GOOD 4                  RAIL – TRUE

OFFICIALS

Chairman of Stewards – E. Tickner
Stewards – J. Childs, T. Preston, F. Hartford, D. MacDonald & W. Glass

GENERAL

When J. Taylor was indisposed due to illness, Stewards permitted rider replacements as per the Stewards’ Race-Day Summary. Jockey Taylor was advised he requires a medical clearance prior to riding again.

Stewards permitted the following overweight:
Race 8, No. 11 MAN TALK – L. Tilley (+0.5kg) – 56kg

Stewards inquired into an incident regarding the behaviour of Jockey A. Thompson following the running of Race 2, when questioned regarding the presence of an individual associated with him in the male jockey room. After taking evidence from Assistant Steward Mr W. Glass, Jockey Thompson pleaded guilty to a charge pursuant to AR228(c) for misconduct, in that he did misconduct himself by using aggressive language towards Mr Glass whilst Mr Glass was carrying out official duties. Jockey Thompson was fined the sum of $1500, with $750 of this being enacted from a previous breach at Toowoomba on Saturday, 31 December 2022 which had been suspended for two years under the provisions of AR283(5). When considering penalty, Stewards considered Jockey Thompson’s previous record in relation to the rule, his guilty plea, obvious remorse as well as the detrimental impact such breaches have on the integrity of the industry and the need for any penalty to serve as both a specific and general deterrent to the industry cohort as a whole. Jockey Thompson was advised of his rights to an appeal.
