Race 1: ROSE CITY CARVERY QTIS 3YO MAIDEN PLATE – 1100M
BROWN CAVIAR – Bumped heavily at the start by another runner and lost ground. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, apprentice L. Tilley advised that the gelding travelled well throughout the event, however when placed under pressure over the concluding stages failed to respond to his riding and ran on only fairly. Trainer S. Iverson advised stewards that he was of the opinion that the gelding did not handle today’s heavy track conditions.
CALL ME RINGO – Steadied after improving on to the heels of another runner leaving the 600m.
VANCOUVER STAR – Laid out under pressure in the home straight.
CLOSE ENOUGH – Hung out and raced ungenerously throughout and continued to lay out under pressure in the home straight.
DIEHARD DIVA – Bumped heavily at the start by another runner and lost ground.
NOTHING OR SUCCESS – Slow to begin. D. McIntosh reported that his mount raced greenly throughout.
Race 2: ROSS MCINTOSH MAIDEN PLATE – 800M
The start of this race was delayed when DALIWOY BAY, which was fractious in the barriers, was removed, underwent a veterinary examination and declared a late scratching at 12.37 pm by order of stewards acting on veterinary advice. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in DALIWOY BAY be refunded, with the following deductions to apply to successful wagers:
14¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, WILD ROMANCE
12¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, WILD ROMANCE
10¢ in the dollar for the place for 2nd, COCOA POPS
19¢ in the dollar for the place for 3rd, SHEZ OUR DESTINY
MR STURT – Bumped at the start. Bumped shortly after the start.
COLD AS ICE – Bumped shortly after the start.
SHEZ OUR DESTINY – D. McIntosh reported that his mount raced greenly and hung out throughout the event.
LITTLE CHA CHA – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
Race 3: JUSTIN BRIGGS COMMEMORATIVE CLASS 3 PLATE – 1100M
MOUNT PERRY – Slow to begin.
Race 4: RAY BUNCH MACHINERY RQ CANNONBALL SERIES BM65 H'CAP – 800M
RUMOUR AND SCANDAL – Hung in in the home straight, proving difficult to ride.
IGNEOUS – Bumped at the start and lost ground.
LISA FASHIONISTA – Bumped at the start.
JEPTOO – Stewards acceded to an application by trainer B. Hudson to remove the pacifiers because of the track conditions. Mr Hudson also advised that the gelding would be ridden off the speed today. Began awkwardly and as a result settled at the rear of the field.
KATIKA – Slow to begin.
Race 5: AEW HORSE WALKERS MAIDEN PLATE – 1350M
CAT CREW – Hung out throughout the event, despite the efforts of its rider. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities. Trainer G. Arnold reported the horse would now be retired from racing. Nonetheless, stewards advised him that should the gelding race again, it must trial satisfactorily prior to being permitted to do so.
HAY LIFE – Forced to steady from heels near the 900m.
JUE JUE ANGEL – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
UNIT – Commenced to hang from the 900m until entering the home straight. Apprentice T. Brooker was reminded of her obligation to ride her mounts out to the end of the race. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
Race 6: RAILWAY HOTEL ALLORA RQ SUMMER PROVINCIAL SERIES BM75 H'CAP – 1350M
STORMY GREY – Steadied when tightened for room near the 800m. Apprentice B. Stower reported that her mount did not travel comfortably at any stage during the event, which she attributed to the heavy track conditions.
NEVETUS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight and brushed with EPIC CHOICE over the concluding stages.
HUSSY ERIN – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
Race 7: COLLEEN BURGESS MEMORIAL BM65 H'CAP – 1500M
CODE WORD – G. Lynch reported at scale that in his opinion the gelding would be better suited to races over a longer distance than today’s event.
TILLZALE – Began awkwardly and lost ground.
CHILLI BEACH – Late scratching at 1.01 pm for veterinary reasons.
VIV’S VEGAS – Laid out under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice T. Brooker reported that it was not the intention to lead today, however, after the mare began well she allowed it to stride forward.
