GENERAL
 
Due to personal reasons Apprentice Z. Sprie was unable to fulfil his riding obligations. Replacements as per the steward’s summary.
Due to transport difficulties, Apprentice J. Molloy was unable to fulfill his engagement in race four. He was subsequently replaced as per the steward’s summary.
 
As a result of N. Fazakerley being dislodged and subsequently taken to hospital following the running of race one, the start times of all remaining events were amended as follows:
 
R2 – 1:38pm
R3 – 2:10pm
R4 – 2:45pm
R5 – 3:20pm
R6 – 3:55pm
R7 – 4:25pm
R8 – 5:05pm
 
Apprentice Fazakerley was subsequently replaced as per the stewards summary.
 
Stewards inquired into an incident that occurred in the vicinity of the tie up stalls involving licenced trainer Mr K. Jones and licenced stable hand Mr G. Smith. After taking evidence from both parties stewards issued the following penalties.
 
Licenced stable hand G. Smith was issued a charge of improper conduct under AR 228(b) in that in the vicinity of the tie up stalls at the Warwick Turf Club race meeting on Saturday the 15th of January 2022, he directed offensive and obscene language towards licenced trainer Mr K. Jones. Mr Smith was subsequently fined $1000, $500 of which is to be wholly suspended for a period of 2 years. Mr Smith was advised of his right to an internal review.
 
Licenced trainer Mr K. Jones was issued a charge of improper conduct under AR 228(b) in that in the vicinity of the tie up stalls at the Warwick Turf Club race meeting on Saturday the 15th of January 2022, he directed offensive and obscene language towards licenced stable hand Mr G. Smith. Mr Jones was subsequently fined $1000, $500 of which is to be wholly suspended for a period of 2 years. Mr Jones was advised of his right to an internal review.
 
 
Race 1: 21ST ANNUAL WARWICK GOLF CLASSIC Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
JAGEN H’GHAR – Commenced to buck shortly after the start resulting in its rider being dislodged. Trainer W. Nugent was advised the gelding would require an official trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to racing. As a of this incident, Apprentice N. Fazakerley was transported to the local hospital.
 
HOOFPRINT – Raced keenly during the middle stages. Improved onto heels and was forced to steady near the 600m.
 
OUR MAGNUS – Began awkwardly.
 
ENTERPRISE BELLA – Fractious in the barrier. Steadied from heals and was forced to shift in when OUR MAGNUS shifted in marginally near the 850m. Jockey N. Day (OUR MAGNUS) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR131(a).
 
SPRITES – Slow to begin. Shifted out abruptly when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
HERTZKA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Held up and was forced to shift in to obtain clear running near the 100m.
 
HYPERION ANGEL – Commenced to buck shortly after the start resulting in its rider being dislodged. Trainer S. Barker was advised the mare would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to racing. Following the event, Jockey N. Masuda was assessed by the Queensland Ambulance Service and was cleared to fulfill his remaining engagements.
 
 
Race 2: ENSBEY ELECTRICAL Maiden Handicap 1100 metres
 
CONSTRUCTIONMASTER – Began awkwardly. Inclined to hang out for the majority. Raced wide without cover from the 800m.
 
SUNSHINES – Raced in restricted room near the 900m.
 
NO LOVE LOST – Began awkwardly. Raced fiercely from the 800m and as a result was forced to steady from heels on numerous occasions. Upon returning to scales, Jockey N. Day reported the gelding felt awkward in its actions from a point near the 300m and as a result he elected to ease his mount from that point. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
BONA DEA – Began awkwardly. Raced wide without cover throughout. Bumped and forced wider by PRINCE SHUVEE near the 300m.
 
MR VISTA – Held up rounding the home turn. Shifted out when placed under pressure over the concluding stages.
 
SHOUTS OUTBACK – Tightened for room shortly after the start and lost ground.
 
KABALEGA – Forced wider at the 300m by BONA DEA.
 
PRINCE SHUVEE – Was forced to steady from heals and shift outwards forcing other runners wider when NO LOVE LOST shifted out. Jockey N. Day (NO LOVE LOST) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR 131(a).
 
Race 3: CAREY BROTHERS ABATTOIR BENCHMARK 70 Handicap 1350 metres
 
BATTLE THROUGH – Knuckled on jumping. Inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight.
 
MADDIARA – Inclined to lay out throughout.
 
REST OF THE WORLD – Raced keenly in the early and middle stages. Held up rounding the home turn.
 
GRANDIOSO– Began awkwardly.
 
HONEY BABY – Began awkwardly.
 
Race 4: ALEXIA FRASER BLOODSTOCK QTIS Three-Year-Old Maiden Handicap 1200 metres
 
GASPIPE – Upon returning to scale the rider reported the gelding hung out for the entirety of the event. Raced wide throughout. Trainer J. Gregory was advised that a warning would be placed on the gelding.
 
CHOSEN DISTANCE – Began awkwardly.
 
IDONO – Began awkwardly.
 
Shani Award – Slow to begin. Improved onto heals and forced to steady near the 850m.
 
TWILIGHT BOOM – Began awkwardly making contact with CLAUDIS shortly after the start. Near the 100m was forced to steady when SANKELISKAR shifted in marginally. Apprentice J. Cornish could offer no explanation as to the below market expectations of the gelding. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities.
 
STRADONE LADY – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
CLAUDIUS – Slow to begin. Raced in restricted room near the 900m.
 
Race 5: WICKHAM FREIGHT LINES BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1500 metres
 
Prior to the event PITTSBURGH PHIL became cast whilst being saddled and as a result was declared a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advise at 3.05pm. Stewards ordered that all monies invested in PITTSBURGH PHIL be refunded with the following deductions to applied:
 
8 cents in the dollar for the win - #6
8 cents in the dollar for the place of winner - #6
7 cents in the dollar for 2nd placegetter – #1
8 cents in the dollar for 3rd placegetter - #5
 
EIGHTYTHREE BRICKS – Began awkwardly. Shifted out across heels rounding the home turn and lost ground.
 
PATH AHEAD – Began awkwardly.
 
EGO DANCER – Inclined to lay out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer K. Jones could offer no explanation for the seemingly improved performance. 
 
LINCOLN FURY – Began awkwardly.
 
SIZZLING BABE – Tightened for room on jumping and lost ground. At the 850m, improved onto the heels of LA RAPIDE. Raced wide from the 800m.
 
MRS SHMICKELBERG - Began awkwardly.
 
 
Race 6: THE MALTHOUSE BENCHMARK 55 Handicap 1500 metres
 
MILITARY KINGS – Jockey P. Hamblin was fined $400 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for is use of the whip seven times prior to the 100m. 
 
HIDDEN HILLS – Improved onto heels of KING BART and was steadied near the 400m.
 
ENTERPRISE MAXIMUS – Raced with its head in the air whilst being restrained at the 1100m. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight. Apprentice O. Kendal was fined $300 under AR132(7)(a)(ii) for her use of the whip six times prior to the 100m.
 
TRY TO BE GOOD – Slow to begin.
 
MONICA ROOM – Raced wide without cover throughout.
 
KING BART - Laid in when placed under pressure in the home straight. Leaving the 200m was accidentally struck in the head by the whip of another rider.
 
 
Race 7: GREEN HOMES / RANBUILD WARWICK Class 2 Handicap 1100 metres
 
SAM’S A NATURAL – Slow to begin. Was forced to steady near the 100m when SONGZILLA shifted out despites the best efforts of its rider.
 
SONGZILLA – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Laid out when placed under pressure in the home straight. Trainer P. Butterworth was fined $100 for failing to declare rider by the prescribed time.
 
YAMUMZA – Began awkwardly and bumped KEEPMOVING FORWARD. Steadied from heels when TOP BIRD shifted in. Apprentice J. Cornish (TOP BIRD) was reprimanded for careless riding under AR 131(a).
 
TOP MELODY – Tailed off from the 400m taking no further competitive part in the event. A post race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer K. Bolton was advised that the gelding would now be barred from Metropolitan and provincial TAB meetings until its form improves.
 
TINDER – Raced in restricted room near the 600m. 
 
 
Race 8: MICHAEL NOLAN RACING RATINGS BAND 0 - 60 Handicap 1350 metres
 
AND OVER AGAIN – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Inclined to lay in under pressure in the home straight.
 
ISSAQUAH – Bumped with QUEEN LEAR near the 1100m.
 
POETIC CHOICE – Raced keenly early and middle stages. Jockey N. Day was found guilty of  a charge under AR 131(b) in that he failed to ride his mount out over the concluding states and in the opinion of the stewards, taking into consideration to nose margin, cost his mount 3rd place, Jockey Days licence to ride in races was suspended for a period of 10 day to commence midnight 22 January 2022 and to conclude midnight 1 February 2022. Jockey Day was advised of his right to an internal review.
 
ABB ROY – Raced wide without cover for the majority and raced keenly in the early and middle stages.
 
MILARGO – Began awkwardly.
 
HARRY’S ME BOY – Tailed off from the 800m taking no further competitive part in the event. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no significant abnormalities. Trainer N. Lakin was advised the gelding would be required to trial to the satisfaction of stewards prior to returning to racing.
