General: Due to mis-communication with RISA, COCKTAILALLROUND, which was a dual acceptor at today’s meeting, was declared a late scratching at 8.27am from Race 1 for acceptable reasons.
 
 
Race 1: CLASS B HDCP 1100 Metres
 
ACE STRYKER – when questioned regarding below market performance rider M Powell stated the gelding, in his opinion, did not handle the prevailing sand track conditions.
 
SPYDROPPER – raced wide for majority of the event.
 
AL HAMZA – a post-race Vet examination revealed the gelding to have bled from one nostril. Trainer B Davis indicated AL HAMZA would now be retired but not withstanding was advised the gelding would be stood down until it satisfactorily gallops 1000 metres in the presence of a steward.
 
PARADISKI – start was delayed when proved difficult to load. Trainer S Pedron was advised a warning would be placed on the mare’s barrier manners.
 
WILHELMENIA – after being loaded into the incorrect barrier was removed and re-loaded.
 
 
 
Race 2: OPEN HDCP 1100 Metres
 
 
MAH BAKER – App A Spinks was reprimanded for use of the whip more than five (5) times prior to the 100 metres.
 
ROSIE’S SON – App D Graham was reprimanded for use of the whip more than five (5) times prior to the 100 metres.
 
REVELIO – when presented to the enclosure with pacifiers, stewards considered an application from trainer G Richardson for the horse to race in that gear.  After hearing submissions from trainer G Richardson, and given the sand track surface, stewards acceded to Mr Richardson’s request. A public announcement was made to this effect.
Mr Richardson was subsequently fined $100 under AR140B(2) for failing to advise of a gear change by the prescribed time.
 
NUG’S POCKET – slow to begin.  Raced wide throughout.
 
Race 3: BENCHMARK 55 HDCP 850 Metres
 
Correct weight was delayed to allow R Payne, rider of fifth place-getter COCKTAILSALLROUND, to view the photo finish image.  After doing so, correct weight was declared on the judge’s placings.
 
SPUR WITH EASE – checked and lost ground near the 750 metres when tightened for room.
 
FIRST BID – slow to begin.
 
STAR PAINTER – raced wide throughout.
 
OVERLOAD – rider C Eaton was found guilty of a charge of careless riding under AR137(a) in that near the 750 metres, when riding her mount along, she permitted OVERLOAD to shift in and tighten SPUR WITH EASE, which was checked and lost ground.  After taking into account her previous good record under this rule and the degree of interference suffered in the incident, the licence of C Eaton was suspended for a period of nine (9) days to commence midnight 28/4/18 up to and including midnight 7/5/18.
 
NEED FINANCE – raced wide throughout.
 
 
 
Race 4: MAIDEN PLATE  1465 Metres
 
HEIRSROC – inconvenienced at the start when bumped by another runner.

NAUGHTY CORNER – had a tendency to lay in when placed under pressure in the home straight. 
 
WILLY BE LUCKY – raced wide in the early stages of the event.
 
CLASSIC MAGIC – jumped in at the start and bumped HEIRSROC.
 
 
 
Race 5: BENCHMARK 65 HDCP 1465 Metres
 
BETTER IDEA – raced wide throughout.
EMPEROR MAXIMILLIAN – hung out for the majority of the event.  A post-race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
ENDLESS DON – shifted out when over-racing rounding the 1200 metre turn. 
ASCOT BOUND – rider A Badger reported at scale the gelding resented the sand kick-back in the early and middle stages of the event.
