Mr Johnston was fined $500.00, $300.00 of which was suspended for a period of 12 months, under LR22(f), on the proviso that he does not breach a similar Rule of Racing.

GENERAL
As J. Morris was indisposed due to illness stewards permitted rider changes as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.
Race 1: SEA FM Class 4 H’Cap – 900m
1st – Sassy Tycoon 2nd – Prince Tamino 3rd – Innocent 4th – Eagle’s Nest

INNOCENT – Leaving the 800m had to be steadied when tightened for room between CAMPIONESSA and EAGLE’S NEST. Stewards questioned App S. Eilbeck as to the reasons why she lost ground in the early stages, resulting in her racing at the rear of the field. App Eilbeck explained that after beginning well she was forced to steady the mare when tightened for room leaving the 800m, at which point her mount dropped the bit and lost more ground than expected. App Eilbeck added she then had to ride the mare along just to hold its position at the tail of the field however, finished the race off well. App Eilbeck conceded that in hindsight she should have been more vigorous on the mare in the early stages in an effort to hold a midfield position.

PRINCE TAMINO - App C. Schmidt was reminded of her obligations to ride her mounts out to the end of the race.

Race 2: STO Property Maintenance Group Maiden H’Cap – 900m
1st – Mia Madalena 2nd – Delvaux 3rd – Snip Of Royalty 4th – Beer ‘N’ Barmaid

The start was delayed when RADD’S ROSE reared dislodging its rider J. Kokotajlo. The filly was removed from the barriers, inspected by the veterinary surgeon and cleared to start. The start was further delayed when the bridle of RADD’S ROSE became loose. Trainer P. Rosel was advised that a warning would be placed on the filly’s barrier manners.

SNIP OF ROYALTY – Stewards accepted the explanation tendered by trainer L. Garrett for the late declaration of L. Rolls. Raced wide throughout.

App Stanley added she attempted to improve leaving the 600m but the gelding failed to quicken as expected and was somewhat disappointing. App Stanley was of the view that today’s impost of 59 kilos prevented the gelding from finishing off the race as expected. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormalities.

LITTLE WEALTH – Began awkwardly and made heavy contact with the off side barrier partition and a short distance later had to be steadied when tightened for room.

POSITIVE CHARGE – Shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

Race 5: ARYZTA Maiden H’Cap – 1200m
1st – I Like Candy 2nd – She’s A Ruby 3rd – Jordanaire 4th – Here’s To Luxury

TRE BROWN – Slow to begin.

SHE’S WORTHY – Shortly after the start had to be steadied when tightened for room and lost ground. Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

Gates stated that the gelding did not travel comfortably in today’s soft conditions. Jockey Gates was of the view that this may have contributed to the poor performance. A post race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.

Race 6: McDonalds Gold Coast Class 2 H’Cap – 2200m

VINE – Jockey B. Wallace reported that the gelding made an abnormal respiratory noise leaving the 600m and then compounded over the final 400m. Trainer J. Wallace undertook to produce the results of an endoscopic examination prior to the gelding’s next start.

Race 7: Ronald McDonald House SEQ BenchMark 80 H’Cap – 1200m
1st – Nothing Like Luca 2nd – Cornrow 3rd – Buakaw 4th – Nakanai

CHEAPSKATER – Checked at the start when badly crowded for room.

HYDRAZINE - Checked at the start when badly crowded for room. Held up over the final 200m and went to the line not fully tested.

BUAKAW – Slow to begin. Laid in over the concluding stages.

NOTHING LIKE LUCA – When questioned as to the improved performance trainer J. Litt stated that the gelding had tapered off towards the end of its previous campaign as a result of continual racing on wet tracks. Mr Litt added that at its last start when first up from a spell the gelding got its tongue over the bit resulting in it finishing tailed off. Mr Litt noted that a tongue tie was added to the gelding’s gear for today’s race, which contributed to its improved performance today.
