GENERAL

Stewards conducted a search of the gear bags of all trainers present today, with no breaches of the Rules being detected.

RACE 1: Ronald McDonald House Pallarenda Stakes QTIS 2-Y-O Colts & Geldings Maiden Plate – 1000 metres
1st - OURBOYBYRON 2nd - LOVE RED 3rd - WATCH ME DAZZLE EM 4th - MIDKNIGHT AIR

JACK ‘N’ EYE – Dislodged its rider, Jockey G. Watson, en route to the barriers and galloped riderless for a considerable distance. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 12.48 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on JACK ‘N’ EYE be refunded in full and that the following deductions apply:

10¢ in the dollar for the win, for the winner OURBOYBYRON
16¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, OURBOYBYRON
8¢ in the dollar for the place for second, LOVE RED

Jockey G. Watson sustained an injury to his right ankle, was transported to hospital and was unable to fulfil his remaining engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary. Jockey Watson must furnish a medical clearance prior to being permitted to ride again.

BE WHY OH – Began awkwardly.

MIDKNIGHT AIR – Made contact with another runner at the start.

WILD AZ WILL – Contacted by another runner at the start.

OURBOYBYRON – When joining the course proper was inclined to race greenly and shifted out abruptly.

LOVE RED – On returning to scale rider reported that his mount was inclined to race greenly when placed under pressure in the straight.

RACE 2: Adbri Masonry Pallarenda Stakes QTIS 2-Y-O Fillies Maiden Plate - 1000 metres
1st - LIKER 2nd - SUPER ANNIE 3rd - MUST BE OBEYED 4th - JOHANTEE

MY GIRL’S A DRAGON – Was injured in the float en route to the course and was a late scratching by order of the stewards acting on veterinary advice at 11.44 a.m.

After being delayed as a result of Jockey G. Watson requiring medical attention following a fall in Race 1, the start was further delayed when LIKER was reluctant to proceed to the barriers.

COLOUR DRAMA – Slow to begin.

COOL ROSE – Slow to begin.

LADY DRUMMER – Shortly after straightening was held up on the heels of a weakening runner and did not obtain clear running until passing the 100 metres.

JET BURST – Made contact with another runner at the start. Trainer G. Townsend was told that a warning will be placed on the filly for not being competitive.

JOHANTEE – Passing the 600 metres had to be steadied when racing tight to the inside of another runner. Had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the home straight.

CRAIGLEA AMITY – Approaching the 200 metres made contact with the running rail, shifted out abruptly and hampered MUST BE OBEYED.

LIKER – Raced 3 wide without cover throughout.

ABBA ORIGINAL – On returning to scale Jockey G. Kliese said that in his opinion the filly was shin sore. A post-race veterinary examination revealed that the filly was shin sore. Trainer A. Payne said that the filly will be spelled immediately.

RACE 3: Mission Beach Resort BenchMark 60 Handicap - 1000 metres
1st - CROTCHET 2nd - RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS 3rd - SERGEANT SHRIVER 4th - RED KISSES

MOLONGLE DREAM – Began awkwardly.

EXAGGERATION – Slow to begin.

CROTCHET – Slow to begin.

ANZUS – Raced 3 wide without cover. Laid in under pressure in the home straight.

COWARDOFTHECOUNTY – Raced wide throughout.

SERGEANT SHRIVER - Was disappointed for a run near the 200m then was held up and did not obtain clear running until passing the 100 metres.

RICH ‘N’ FAMOUS – Held up in the early part of the straight when attempting a narrow run to the inside of another runner.

RED KISSES – Stewards questioned Apprentice L. Attard regarding his riding in the straight. He said that his mount was inclined to lay out throughout the event and proved difficult to ride. When asked as to why he did not pull the whip through to his left hand he explained that he was reluctant to do so as he is less proficient in this manner of riding. Stewards advised App. Attard that he had erred in not attempting to pull the whip through, in that his riding would be referred to the Riders Advisory Panel for further tuition. App. Attard was also reprimanded for raising his whip above shoulder height.

RACE 4: McDonalds The Lakes/Aitkenvale/Stockland & Castletown Maiden Handicap - 1200 metres
1st – RULISTIC 2nd - LYKELY 3rd - EIRIAN 4th - ON THE BID

VALENTINE’S DAY – Whilst parading in the enclosure became fractious and dislodged Jockey P. Cullen. Stewards ordered the late scratching of the gelding at 2.34 p.m. Subsequently they ordered that all bets made on VALENTINE’S DAY be refunded and that the following deductions apply:

1¢ in the dollar for the win for the winner, RULISTIC
2¢ in the dollar for the place for the winner, RULISTIC
2¢ in the dollar for the place for second, LYKELY
2¢ in the dollar for third, EIRIAN

Jockey Cullen was examined by the Ambulance officers and cleared to fulfil his further engagements.

EIRIAN – On returning to scale Jockey M. Morris said that he rode his mount along vigorously in the early stages, however it was reluctant to stretch out. After riding in this race, Jockey Morris became indisposed and was unable to fulfil his further engagements. Substitutions were made as per the Stewards Race Day Summary.

CHARLIE’S MOMENT – Jockey A. Butler was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.

RACE 5: Hall’s Firearms BenchMark 65 Handicap - 1300 metres
1st - THANKGODFORFRANC 2nd - I’M MARIAH 3rd - THE BEST 4th - HOYWEDGE

THE BEST – Approaching the first turn near the 1000 metres, when racing keenly, got it's head up and lost ground when being restrained.

DANARULE – Passing the 600 metres improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

CHARLIE’S MOMENT – Raced in restricted room over the concluding stages.

I’M MARIAH – Passing the 200 metres was momentarily crowded, then raced in restricted room for a short distance thereafter.

HOYWEDGE – When questioned regarding his riding, Jockey G. Kliese said that after beginning only fairly the mare settled in a rearward position, in accordance with its established racing pattern. He stated that rounding the home turn, whilst racing close to the running rail, he envisaged a run to appear, however after being held up he elected to shift his mount to the outside of the field and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200 metres, where the mare finished strongly.

RACE 6: McWilliam’s Family Wines BEnchMark 60 Handicap - 1609 metres
1st - VO TREASURE 2nd - ROSE IN BLOOM 3rd - MY GIRL CHARLIE 4th - DATE WITH FATE

GAINSFORD – Began awkwardly and lost ground. Raced keenly in the early stages. Held up rounding the home turn and did not obtain clear running until passing the 200 metres.

LOFTY’S MATE – Began awkwardly.

FILLE VILAINE – Raced 3 wide without cover.

VO TREASURE – Rounding the home turn improved onto heels and had to be steadied.

VIRTUITY – Was momentarily inconvenienced passing the 200 metres.

WHAT’S YOUR SECRET – When questioned regarding the poor performance of the gelding App. N. Summers explained that after being crossed near the 1300 metres, from that point her mount never travelled comfortably and when placed under pressure rounding the home turn her mount was most disappointing and weakened. She added that in her opinion the gelding performs best when able to dictate terms in front. A post-race veterinary examination revealed the gelding to be dehydrated. Trainer Mr D. Durand undertook to report back to the stewards in the days subsequent.

RACE 7: Ede Events Townsville Amateurs Cup Open Handicap - 2000 metres
1st – CHATEAU DETTORI 2nd - MOSSIMO 3rd - LEXCEN 4th - BESEECH

BESEECH – As Jockey G. Kliese was to be overweight, Jockey J. P. Stanley was substituted. Jockey Kliese was reprimanded under A.R. 120(b). Stewards took into account Jockey Kliese’s exemplary record in regard to the Rule.

LEXCEN – Slow to begin. Raced wide in the early stages and allowed his mount to stride forward and assume the lead.

SETTLERS WAY – Began awkwardly, shifted in and made contact with another runner. Raced keenly in the early stages and raced wide throughout.

MOSSIMO – Raced keenly in the early stages.

PACHAMAMA – Bumped at the start.

CASTLE EXPRESS – Began awkwadly with its head up. Held up for the entirety of the straight and went to the finish without being fully tested.

ALDREN – Approaching the 100 metres was momentarily held up for clear running.

RACE 8: Davis Family Group Townsville Amateurs Sprint Open Handicap - 1200 metres
1st - ACCIDENTAL 2nd - BOOM SHA LA 3rd - RIVARIVA 4th - MOUNTAIN VIEW

BLAME GAME – Crowded for room at the start. Held up on heels from the 200 metres and unable to improve.

RIVARIVA – Buffeted between runners at the start.

CLEAVER – Slow to begin.

PRETTY GULLY – Slow to begin.

MOUNTAIN VIEW – Raced 3 wide without cover.

MORE THAN A SONG – When questioned regarding his riding in the straight, App. Haley said that shortly after straightening he attempted a run between ARCATRAN and CARRY ME, and after eventually improving into that run he then attempted to continue forward into a run between CARRY ME and MIATA. However, when MIATA continually shifted in under pressure, he was placed in restricted room and unable to place his mount under full pressure.

HOLEY GADOLEY – App. D. Evans was reprimanded for failing to weigh in.
