HEART OF A LION- Shifted in under pressure down the running.

OCTOBER JOY- Stewards inquired into the tactics adopted on the mare which led the field by some distance. Jockey N Nishio advised that his instructions had been to be forward. Stewards noted this, however sought clarification as to why Jockey Nishio did not attempt to settle his horse once positioned to the outside of SILESIAN near the 1400m or try and restrain his mount at any time down the back straight so as to not lead the field by an excessive margin. Jockey Nishio advised that his instructions has been to be gentle on the horses mouth, as once restrained his mount neglects to again pick up the bit so he elected to permit his mount to stride along. Trainer N Hemmings corroborated Jockey Nishios statements however did not expect the mare to be leading and had expected her instructions of being forward or positive to have resulted in the mare settling with cover as she can be slow away. Stewards noted the explanations and intend to review betting activity for the race.

Held up for clear running on entering the home straight and was obliged to shift wider passing the 200m to obtain clear running. Stewards advised App M Kennedy that, in those circumstances, she would have been better positioned to have shifted her mount wider on entering the home straight to ensure clear running rather than attempting to secure a run between horses, given her relative position in the field.
