App. questioned RE: as to the tactics adopted. He was instructed to position the gelding where comfortable. In the early stages, despite efforts, was unable to improve forward of GODWOOD in an effort to obtain a position one off the fence. Further added that as a consequence was forced to race three wide before being forced four wide leaving the 1700m when GODWOOD improved to his inside. He then attempted to ride the gelding forward to obtain a position closer to the fence but was unable to do so where again was forced wider on the track passing the 800m. Rider questioned RE: tactics adopted, rider stated that she was instructed not to overly restrain the gelding as it often resented this tactic and overraced as a consequence. Rider added that for this reason passing the 1700m she was reluctant to restrain in an effort to maintain a trailing position. As a consequence, when taken wider at that point she allowed the gelding to stride forward resulting in racing three wide for the remainder of the race. Compounded from the 800m.
