A post race veterinary examination revealed a mild case of the thumps. Trainer D. Vandyke advised stewards that ASTRONOMOS sustained two black eyes Sunday morning. He suspects that it occurred during the running of the race and would explain the disappointing performance. He further advised that the gelding had pulled up fine in all other aspects and would continue with current preparation and head to the Brisbane Cup, 2400m. He advised that the horse tactics will vary being over further distance, will drop back and be ridden cold.
