When questioned regarding his tactics, J. Oliver advised that the mare began fairly from a wide alley and his instructions were to ride the mare back, however after obtaining a position near the rear of the field he was of the view that he would have had to apply too much pressure to the mare to obtain a run to the outside 500m from home and therefore he elected to wait until approaching the final turn before asking his mount for an effort. Began awkwardly and shifted out. J. Taylor reported that the mare was making an abnormal breathing noise. Trainer K. Waller advised stewards that he had been experimenting with a tongue control bit and a tongue tie and he may adjust the horse’s gear for its next start. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no abnormalities.
