Questioned re tactics - rider stated bearing in mind small field instructed to obtain handy position or in the event of a strong tempo, to settle further back in the field. Gelding appeared to slip on jumping away resulting in it losing ground at the start after which he conceded he should have placed the gelding under more pressure to obtain a position outside SAINT HUGO. Stewards agreed that rider had erred in lack of vigour in early stages but bearing in mind is relative inexperience as an apprentices did not believe his error was culpable under the rules.
