Had to be steadied and checked off heels approaching the 1300m when tightened for room and tehn shortly after overraced when the pace slackeneed. When questioned regarding the tacitcs jockey J. Byrne explained that he steadied after being slightly hampered in the early stages he got shuffled back to a rearward position with the slow tempo. He added that at a point passing the 800m no opportunity arose for him to improve on the back of another runner and therefore he elected to wait and not expose his mount too early. He added that gelding ran on well over the concluding stages.
