D. Browne said that he attempted to secure cover in 5th or 6th position and when unable to do so he was obliged to allow the horse to stride forward to a position outside the lead closer to the rail near the 600m. He added that in his opinion, whilst this had some bearing on the horse’s performance, he felt that the horse did not race comfortably in the rain-affected conditions as when placed under full pressure it failed to respond.

Broke through the front of the barriers, was quickly restrained, returned to the barriers, underwent a veterinary inspection and cleared to race. After being steadied to allow VANILLA JEWEL (J. Lloyd) to cross near the 900m to obtain cover, the horse was then obliged to steady from that runner’s heels and lost ground when J. Lloyd steadied the pace. J. Lloyd was advised to exercise more care in similar circumstances when steadying the pace.
