Stewards inquired into the reason for the mare being severely checked near the 300m. Whilst it was established that after passing the 400m a run had presented itself to the inside of STAR OF COLUMBIA, that horse weakened significantly and shifted in at a point near the 350m. This resulted in CAPE DENISON being disappointed for a run to the inside of that horse shortly after and caused apprentice Lacy to check the mare. Stewards could not attribute any blame to any rider and took no further action. Apprentice S. Lacy reported the horse had a minor laceration to the off foreleg post race.

Stewards asked Miss Ainsworth to comment on the performance. She indicated that the horse overraced with the blinkers on in today’s event and did not run out a strong 1600m. She recommended to connections to look to start the horse over shorter distances. A post race veterinary examination failed to reveal any significant abnormalities.
