Apprentice M. Murphy reported to stewards that it was not his intention to lead, however after being caught three wide in the early stages he elected to allow the gelding to stride forward and take up a leading position near the 1100m.

Steward Comment

Raced wide throughout. When questioned regarding the horse’s disappointing performance, rider said the horse commenced to hang out when placed under pressure from the 500m and in his opinion was entitled to finish the race off better than it did, however was most disappointing. Trainer could offer no tangible explanation, however noted that the horse races best when able to lead in its events. He added that in light of today’s performance, he will look to drop the horse back in class and in races of a lesser distance than today’s event. Vetted, no significant findings.

Raced wide in the early stages. Apprentice B. Ainsworth was afforded the opportunity to comment on the horse’s performance. Apprentice Ainsworth stated that the gelding overraced in the early stages and after obtaining cover, settled for the majority of the event until placed under pressure near the 600m and proved most disappointing. She noted that LANDALE’s previous performances at Gatton may suggest that the gelding is not suited by the tight turning track.
