When questioned as to whether there was an opportunity to improve her position approaching the home turn, Apprentice said that she had been instructed to ride the mare where it was comfortable, and not to contest the lead if the tempo was solid. She felt the leader, had gone hard in front and she envisaged that it would weaken, so she desisted from riding her mount along at the home turn, electing to let it straighten and balance up before placing it under full pressure. She agreed with the view of stewards that she had erred by not placing her mount under pressure earlier.
