When questioned Apprentice said that from the wide barrier he rode his mount along in the early stages to take up a forward position, however the gelding over-raced and when in the lead refused to settle. He attributed this to the gelding weakening. A post-race veterinary examination did not reveal any abnormalities. Trainer undertook to report back in the days following.
