CHARLOTTE MANFIELD

Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Charlotte (Charlie) Manfield as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.

Charlie brings a rich and diverse background to our team of retrainers, blending years of hands-on experience in racing, showjumping and dressage.   Her journey began as a Jillaroo in rural Queensland, where she developed the foundations of her horsemanship. From there, she worked as a trackwork rider on the Sunshine Coast, before gaining international experience as a stud hand and groom in New Zealand. Driven by a deep respect for horses and their welfare, Charlie went on to establish her own horse training and education business, where she continues to make a lasting impact.

Adding further depth to her expertise, Charlie achieved her veterinary nursing qualification and worked as a vet nurse on the Sunshine Coast. She also showcases her equestrian skills as one of the regular riders in the Australian Outback Spectacular on the Gold Coast.

Today, Charlie dedicates much of her time to retraining off-the-track horses at her picturesque 11-acre property on the Sunshine Coast. Each horse is given time to settle into life after racing, before beginning retraining with gentle flatwork and desensitisation exercises such as trail riding and pole work. As their confidence builds, Charlie gradually introduces small jumps, beach trips, jump club sessions, and group outings. These experiences give horses the exposure and versatility they need to thrive in new disciplines and environments.

Charlie’s philosophy extends beyond training – it is about honouring every horse’s contribution and ensuring they are supported, respected, and cared for long after their racing days are over. Her passion lies not only in producing talented equestrian partners but also in fostering a culture within the horse community that values lifelong welfare and opportunity for every horse.

“I find the process of retraining so rewarding and it’s something I have been passionate about for many years. Although I wasn’t able to pursue riding as a jockey, retraining allows me to stay connected to the racing industry while giving back to the horses who give us so much.”

Charlotte holds a Certificate II Horse Husbandry, Certificate III Track Rider, Certificate II in Rural Operations, Certificate II in Animal Care and Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing.
