KATE JACKWITZ

Queensland Off-The-Track proudly introduces Kate Jackwitz as a QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer.
Based in Fairney View, Queensland, Kate operates Fiore Hills Equestrian, a boutique training and retraining facility specialising in off-the-track Thoroughbreds and performance horses. Built around a horse-first philosophy, Kate prioritises individual care and correct education, ensuring every horse is given the time and support needed to thrive beyond racing.
Kate is an experienced horsewoman with a strong background in producing and retraining Thoroughbreds. She prepares off-the-track Thoroughbreds for a variety of second-career pathways, including show jumping, eventing, dressage, pony club, showing and leisure riding. Her focus on correct foundations and progressive education helps develop confident, rideable horses that are well equipped for long-term success.
Kate's retraining approach begins by allowing each horse to adjust to life physically and mentally after racing. Every horse follows a structured yet flexible program tailored to its individual needs, with patience, consistency and clear communication underpinning her training philosophy. She places a strong emphasis on welfare, soundness and building confidence throughout the retraining journey.
Having previously worked in a Thoroughbred pre-training environment and now working as a trackwork rider, Kate has valuable insight into the early education of racehorses and a strong understanding of Thoroughbred behaviour and development. This experience enables her to effectively support horses as they transition into their new careers.
When rehoming horses, Kate carefully assesses each horse's temperament, strengths and suitability for different riders and disciplines. She is committed to honest communication and works closely with prospective owners to ensure each horse is matched with the right home, creating successful and lasting partnerships. She also keeps owners informed throughout the retraining process to ensure goals and expectations remain aligned.
Kate's thoughtful, welfare-focused approach gives every horse the best opportunity to transition successfully into a rewarding life beyond racing.
“I have a strong connection to Thoroughbreds, having grown up around the racing industry through my grandfather, who trained racehorses. From a young age, I was taught the importance of horse welfare, and that has carried through into how I approach retraining today.”
“I really enjoy the process of helping OTT horses transition into a new career. They are intelligent, athletic, and often just need time, consistency, and clear guidance to understand what is being asked of them. I find it incredibly rewarding building their confidence and seeing them settle into a job where they can succeed. My goal is to produce confident, well-educated horses and ensure they are matched with suitable homes where they can thrive.”
