The old saying quality rather than quantity is certainly in the essence for Margaret Donohoe’s Monarch Farm entry at the Garrard’s Redcliffe Yearling Sale at Redcliffe Paceway on Sunday, April 2.

Donohoe, who brought out the classic-winning juveniles The Peace Maker and Hold Onto Ya Bling, has two colts and a filly nominated for the sale.

Lot 17, an attractive bay filly, is by Hold Onto Ya Bling’s sire Bling It On, the former Australian 2YO and 3YO Colt of the Year and Hunter Cup and Victoria Cup hero.

She is the second foal out of Cupcake Gaby, a daughter of the thrice WA Pacing Cup winner The Falcon Strike and the Group 3 winner La Garce (1:58), the dam of four winners including the Racing Minister’s Cup victor All Time Great 1:56.5 ($122,564) and All Time High 1:59.2 ($101,330).

“She’s a very nice moving filly and easy to do anything with,” Margaret said.

Lot 45, a strongly built bay colt raised and prepared at Monarch Farm for client Alf La Spina, is the only Somebeachsomwhere at the sale.

He is from the good Albion Park winner Soeur De Lyse (1:55.9) and thus a half-brother to the promising three-year-old San Marea (1:58.3) and QBred Breeders Classic Consolation winner Borsellino (1:57.7).

The colt belongs to the same family as last year’s 2YO Filly of the Year and Australasian two-year-old mile record holder Major Delight 1:50.3 ($426,979).

The second colt is Lot 54, a well grown, bold moving fellow by the Meadowlands Pace winner and now highly successful Queensland-based sire A Rocknroll Dance.

Owned by Monarch Farm client Damian Shaw, the colt is from the Albion Park juvenile winner Miss Aggressor (1:58.5), a half-sister to the prolific ‘Creek’ winner My Ultimate Hell 1:55.6 (21 wins and $110,930).

All yearlings sold at the sale are eligible for the guaranteed $100,000 Garrard’s Redcliffe Yearling Sale 2YO Classic in 2024 and the $50,000 3YO Classic in 2025.

They are also eligible for QBred, Breeders Crown, Bathurst Gold Crown, NSW Breeders Challenge and Vicbred.

It is a non-reserve sale with no upset price or minimum bidding price.
