RQ introduces greyhound meeting enhancements
Racing Queensland will provide additional racing opportunities for its greyhound code with the introduction of 14-race cards at The Q and a further meeting at Capalaba.
Following consultation with its key stakeholders including the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission, Sky Racing and its SEQ clubs, the initiatives will be trialled for a two-month period.
RQ Executive General Manager - Racing David Brick said he expected today’s announcement would be warmly received by participants.
“The trial period will provide an opportunity for increased opportunities for Queensland’s greyhound code, while optimising wagering outcomes in key timeslots,” Mr Brick said.
“This stems from reviewing the nomination and starter data, along with industry feedback which collectively highlighted the need for additional racing opportunities.
“The initiatives will require further programme revisions, which will be further communicated in the near future.”
An initial two-month trial period will commence on Monday, September 1, 2025, with meetings programmed at The Q to host up to 14 races on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays.
Mondays will consist of race meetings on the Q2 Parklands and Q Straight, with prioritisation to races programmed on the two-turn track. Q Straight meetings will be programmed to deliver 14 races at The Q.
The Q1 Lakeside will host 14-race cards on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
From Wednesday, October 1, 2025, Capalaba will also increase its racing footprint, with the grass track to host race meetings every Wednesday and Sunday on a trial basis.
During this period, RQ will seek feedback from its participants and industry stakeholders on both initiatives.
