“We have won through the heat stage, but just had no luck in the Final.”
Grevillea certainly offers room for some confidence on Thursday night, breaking the track record in his heat win with a sizzling 24.86 second performance.
Ironically, the previous record holder, Jeff Crawford’s Validate (24.99 seconds) poses one of the biggest threats, from box two.
Forster, whose thoroughbred training high point to date came with Apache Chase and victory in 2022 Group 1 Kingsford Smith Cup at Eagle Farm, is quick to dismiss any thoughts of ever taking up the collar and lead.
However, she is happy to provide her ownership group of five friends – aptly named ‘Here To Party’ - her appraisal of their dog’s chances in the $30,000-to-the-winner Derby decider.
“The key to our dog is a clean start,” Forster says.
“If he gets that then he is very fast. His start is improving and he is quite genuine now. On Thursday night the dog out of box two (Validate) will be a very hard dog to beat. He loves that box.
