Changes to Toowoomba Turf Club features

5 January 2026

Toowoomba’s time-honoured feature race is set to receive a prize money boost.

The Weetwood Handicap will now be run for $200,000 in 2026 – a $40,000 uplift – maintaining its status as the city’s flagship race.

The raceday will continue to be run alongside Toowoomba’s famous Carnival of Flowers in late September, and will also include both the Toowoomba Cup and Toowoomba Guineas.

Elsewhere, the King of the Mountain will be overhauled, to be run as a $150,000 Open Handicap over 1200 metres in 2026.

Previously, the King of the Mountain had been run as a slot race, with slot holder contributions comprising the majority of its prize money.

The raceday will maintain its position on the Toowoomba Show Holiday, on Friday, March 27 and will also feature the Pat O’Shea Plate for two-year-olds worth $125,000 (+ QTIS bonuses).

The eight-race card will see more than $550,000 in prize money up for grabs.
