Mr Jones takes up the role having served as General Manager – Marketing and Events at RQ over the past five years.

Commencing in the role from January 5, Mr Jones will be responsible for leading the marketing and communications functions that encompasses the organisation’s key milestone events, brand, and content strategy.

The appointment follows the resignation of former EGM Customer & Corporate Affairs Richard Goodbody, who recently commenced at Harness Racing Australia as its new Chief Executive Officer.

During his tenure at RQ, Mr Jones has been pivotal in driving the growth across marquee racing carnivals, as well as overseeing the introduction of new innovative racing concepts including The Ultimate Driver Championship and The Hayden.

He also drove the celebration of the state’s country racing through the popular Battle of the Bush and Country Cups Challenge, alongside the Fashions From Afar series which will enter its fifth iteration in 2026.

In addition, he led the development and implementation of The Q’s overarching branding as the home of Queensland greyhound racing.

“First and foremost, I have a longstanding passion for the racing industry, through both ownership and administration that I am incredibly excited to continue in this new role,” Jones said.

“Over my time at RQ, I’ve built strong working relationships with our clubs and participants, and am excited to continue that innovation and growth for both the organisation and the wider industry.

“It’s an exciting time for the industry on the back of the Queensland Racing Review, and I look forward to being able to lead the implementation of a number of its recommendations throughout 2026.”

Prior to joining RQ in 2021, Jones spent three years as Under Armour’s Australia & New Zealand Retail Marketing Manager, as well as six years as the Director of Marketing at Brosnan Golf.

RQ Acting CEO Lachlan Murray said he was delighted to see Mr Jones continue to build on his great work within the organisation’s marketing and communications department.

“In Mitch’s five years at RQ, he has overseen and led the end-to-end marketing and event strategy across each of the three racing codes,” Murray said.

“Over that time, he has built strong relationships with a number of our key stakeholders, and we look forward to that continuing in this role.

“Above all else, Mitch is a brilliant individual, whose passion for the racing industry is second to none, which will hold him in great stead in this role going forward.”
