Trainer Lachie Manzelmann is hoping to secure a spot in next month’s $500,000 QTIS Jewel 3YO Final at the Gold Coast with his recent maiden winner Girls Got Attitude.

Girls Got Attitude - an Adam Sewell mount - will back-up in the QTIS Three-Years-Old Plate at Mackay on Friday after breaking through for her first win in a 1200 metre maiden at Rockhampton last week.

“She’s been a handy horse and I know she’s being thrown into the deep end in this,” Manzelmann said.

“Horses like Fabulean and Lady Willpower are on the way up and have a lot more race experience than her.

“But, I’m expecting her to race very well and if she wins, she’ll go to the QTIS Jewel Final next month with bells on.”

If Girls Got Attitude does go on to win the QTIS Jewel Final, it’ll be Manzelmann’s first metropolitan winner.

“Lets Torque A Deel won a race at Ipswich for me, but it wasn’t a metro meeting and I trained The Driller who was placed a few times in Brisbane,” Manzelmann said.

Girls Got Attitude was bought at the Magic Millions sales by Manzelmann’s father John.

“Dad got her at the Magic Millions sales and she’s raced by an all-female syndicate,” Manzelmann said.

“All the women who were working at Dad’s stables when he bought her all have small shares in her.”

Manzelmann will have plenty of family support as he strives for his first QTIS Jewel Final starter.

Among her ownership group is Lachie Manzelmann’s grandmother Betty Manzelmann, his aunt Tracy Simmons and Vivienne Doolan who is the mother of John Manzelmann’s partner, Jade Doolan.

“Dad had a good opinion of her early on and sent her to Georgie Holt in Townsville for her first run when she ran third,” Manzelmann said.

“But, she had a few issues after that and had to go for a spell.

“Since she’s been back here, she’s been gradually building her form and her maiden win was very good.”

Manzelmann has only been training for three or so years.

In October of last year, he merged with his father who transferred all his horses to Lachie.

Lachie, like his father, was a former harness trainer before switching codes.

“Dad is still doing a fair bit around the stables and hasn’t backed off in any way,” Manzelmann said.

“He keeps the wheels turning.”
