Racing Queensland Grading Procedure and Programming Review Update

27 February 2026

Racing Queensland (RQ) would like to thank all greyhound participants who took part in the Grading Procedure and Programming Feedback sessions in November and December. RQ thanks those who provided valuable input through our online feedback channels and at the club visits. Since those sessions, RQ has already started adjusting the racing program to better align with the needs and suggestions from participants. As a direct result of club visits and the feedback gathered, RQ has introduced several programming changes, summarised below:

The Q

  • Preferential Box Draws are now in place for Q Straight meetings on Thursdays.
  • Grade 5 352m events are being programmed as required at Q1 Lakeside meetings on Tuesdays.
  • Restricted wins races have been added to Q1 Wednesday and Q1 Friday meetings.

Rockhampton

  • 5th/6th Grade 510m races on Sundays.
  • Pathways 407m races on Sundays and Wednesdays.
  • Maiden Heats over 407m.
  • Restricted win and Grade 5 heats over 407m.
  • Versatility races from 407m to 510m.

Townsville

  • Changed 0-4 wins 498m events to 0-3 wins 490m.
  • Introduced Masters 5th Grade 498m races.
  • Reduced the number of Pathways heats over 380m.
  • Increased restricted win and Grade 5 heats over 380m.
  • Added mixed grade options for 4th Grade greyhounds over 498m.
  • Included as-required events on Friday race meetings.

In addition to these program adjustments, we received a substantial amount of feedback regarding the Grading Procedure, which we are currently reviewing and analysing in detail. Once this analysis has been completed, including consideration to any system changes required to Ozchase, RQ will draft proposed changes to the Grading Procedure for industry consultation.

RQ remains committed to ongoing collaboration with all stakeholders to implement further improvements that support the long-term sustainability and success of the Queensland greyhound racing industry.

RQ thanks all stakeholders for their engagement and insights which help shape positive change. Any additional thoughts or questions can be directed to  grading@racingqueensland.com.au
