Cairns Jockey Club meeting rescheduled

RQ advises that the race meeting at Cairns Jockey Club on Monday, March 9, has been postponed and rescheduled to Thursday, March 12.

The postponement decision has been made following a track inspection and the determination that the track is unsuitable for racing on and will not recover in time for the race meeting to take place on Monday.  

The meeting will now be run on Thursday and following the rescheduling of it, coupled with this morning’s abandonment of the Innisfail Turf Club meeting (tomorrow), fresh nominations will be called for. The relevant deadlines for the meeting are as follows:

• Nominations: Monday, March 9 - 11am
• Weights: Monday, March 9
• Acceptances: Tuesday, March 10 - 9am
• Jockeys: Tuesday, March 10 - midday

Trainers should also note that horses which were accepted in races with the race meeting’s original scheduling will be given preference for race order entry at the rescheduled meeting.    

The meeting’s rescheduling has also been the catalyst for the barrier trial which was programmed to take place after its conclusion to be reprogrammed.  Accordingly, it will now be run after Thursday’s race meeting and fresh nominations will be called for. Nominations will close Tuesday, March 10, at 9am.
