RQ unveils Greyhound of the Year finalists

5 March 2026

The finalists for the 2025 Sportsbet Queensland Greyhound of the Year have been unveiled.

Staged in Brisbane on March 20, Autumn Storm, Daysea’s Rory and Blue Blend will battle it out for the Queensland greyhound industry’s highest accolade after a voting panel of eight narrowed the field down to three finalists.

Nominated for the top honour in 2024, Autumn Storm backed up that outstanding form again in 2025, posting back-to-back wins for Queensland by taking out The 715 at The Gardens, the world's richest staying event.

Under the care of leading trainer Tom Tzouvelis, the black bitch posted 11 wins and seven placings from 28 starts across the season.

Another star chaser from the Tzouvelis kennel, Daysea’s Rory continued to impress in 2025, notching 18 wins and eight placings from 39 starts.

The fawn dog’s year was headlined by wins in the Group 3 Straight Of Origin and QGOLD Winter Sprint Final, a new track record in the Group 2 Townsville Cup heats, and gallant efforts in the Group 1 Gold Bullion, and finals of the Ladbrokes Million Dollar Chase and Melbourne Cup.

Blue Blend, trained by Jeff Crawford, burst on to the local greyhound racing scene in 2025 with an impressive 15 wins and eight placings from 32 starts.

The blue dog set several track records at The Q and took out the Q1 Lakeside Cup as well as the Group 3 Origin Greyhound Series Match Race Final to seal victory for Queensland.

Acting RQ CEO Lachlan Murray said the performances of this year’s finalists again underlined the quality and promise in Queensland’s chasing ranks.

“I would like to congratulate the three finalists and their connections for their recognition amongst the state’s top echelon, and wish them all the best on the night,” Mr Murray said.

“They have all represented Queensland with distinction throughout the year, and deserve to be applauded for their outstanding efforts.

“With our new home of greyhound racing, The Q, continuing to attract participants from across the country, the greyhound code continues to come along in leaps and bounds in Queensland.

“The 2025 Awards night will be a fantastic evening to celebrate the outstanding achievements within the code.”

The evening will also see club awards presented, along with new awards for the leading greyhound and trainer at each of the tracks at The Q.

The Queensland Owner of the Year and Queensland Breeder of the Year will also be crowned.

Other awards to be handed out on the night include:

  • Young Achiever;
  • Women in Racing;
  • Performance of the Year;
