Form Analysis: Albion Park April 28

28 April 2026

RACE ONE

A small 2YO maiden with four first starters. Off the back of a handy trial performance, SHINE LIKE ME (5) can look to convert that effort to race day victory. By Huntsville which is leading the 2YO siring premiership, she can overcome the tricky gate to chase a debut victory.

 GO MINNIE (3)
can build off her first up 2nd where she did everything required in chasing home for the silver behind HUNT FOR GLORY. Trialing well in preparation for that debut, she can be close enough to challenge.

 JUST SONNY (1)
is a Cattlewash gelding making his first race start and following the pegs home in a recent trial, was faultless in his manners. With early options from the gate, he has podium prospects.

SELECTIONS: SHINE LIKE ME (5), GO MINNIE (3), JUST SONNY (1)
SUGGESTED BET: SHINE LIKE ME (5) to win

RACE TWO

It was an impressive racetrack debut by ALWAYS B COOL (1) here last week when challenging the winner MOVE IT LOU and finishing 3m away. The time was a smart 1.53.4 and with a 37m margin back to 3rd, highlighted the class of the performance. Added experience and the inside gate are huge benefits.

 SITTING ON EIGHT (6)
made a mess of the start here last week and was never a factor as MOVE IT LOU proved too classy. Placed his previous three in succession, a 2026 win is still proving elusive despite some solid performances. The small field assists with his hopes of a breakthrough.

 IAM HUGO (2)
has raced twice this term, the latest when eased from a wide gate and losing some momentum as the quinella players cleared out to put a margin on the chasing pack. From the gate, he can feature here.

SELECTIONS:
ALWAYS B COOL (1), SITTING ON EIGHT (6), IAM HUGO (2)
 SUGGESTED BET:
ALWAYS B COOL (1) to win

RACE THREE

A strong battle looms here despite the small field and despite the outside gate, SHANKYS SHOT (6) can stake claim to open his Qld ledger. First up on this side of the Tasman last start when holding 3rd, it was a tidy effort behind BARSBY after retreating early. Overcoming the gate is the biggest obstacle.

 FITZROY (5)
could not go on with it last start and was unplaced behind BARSBY when starting from this same gate. Running late for the bronze the start prior behind ALWAYSBJOY, he showed his talent when dictating the start prior with a 26.5 close out. He is in the mix.

 JAMES ALFRED (3)
found the poles first before taking the trail and finishing best to score here two starts back. 4th out of the same race referenced where BARSBY dictated, he has the early advantage over the main players.

SELECTIONS: SHANKYS SHOT (6), FITZROY (5), JAMES ALFRED (3)
 SUGGESTED BET:

RACE FOUR

Backing up from Friday when starting from a 10m tape, VOLTAIN (2) will appreciate the front tape here despite meeting stronger opposition. Making a late raid for the bronze in that latest outing, she can press forward here and with options thereafter, will give a strong account.

 NORTHERN HEIGHTS (10)
will derive benefit from his first up task when hitting the line strongly over the mobile 2138 with a half-neck 3rd. Despite the 30m handicap, he has the class and with the right cart into the contest can throw down a challenge.

 CROOKWELL EYES (1)
could not go with them after a soft trip last time out at mobile conditions and finished down the line. A return to the standing start and the front mark will assist his claims.

 SOUTHERN DIAMOND (8)
rolled forward from a second line gate last time out over the mobile 2138 and sitting parked was game in defeat when a half-neck astern. Tape manners are the concern.

SELECTIONS: VOLTAIN (2), NORTHERN HEIGHTS (10), CROOKWELL EYES (1), SOUTHERN DIAMOND (8)
 SUGGESTED BET:
VOLTAIN (2) win/place

RACE FIVE

Sent out fav from this same gate last time out, SASSY GALLEON (8) was locked away three back on the inside and finished 5m from the winner NELLIE JOY. Completing a hat-trick of wins the start prior when dictating from gate 2 at the mobile 2138, she will need a slice of luck but is up to the task.

 NELLIE JOY (3)
was trying to reel in the leader last start but came up 1m short in a strong closing half controlled in front by CALL ME TROUBLE. Dictating from the mobile the start prior made it four wins from in the past five starts and she can work if needed in challenging.

 DARCYS FIREBALL (5)
has been racing consistently without threatening for the win with placings in five of his past six. Runner-up to NELLIE JOY two starts back, he can feature again.

 IZARRA (2)
returns from a spell following her last start back in December when making an error. Tackling stronger events prior to that run, she has podium claims from the gate fresh up.

SELECTIONS: SASSY GALLEON (8), NELLIE JOY (3), DARCYS FIREBALL (5), IZARRA (2)
 SUGGESTED BET:
SASSY GALLEON (8) to win

RACE SIX

An even line up here where mapping and tempo will be key. WESTERN ACTION (3) was a winner from the trail three starts back, taking cover and finishing best after starting from the inside gate. Making late metres to grab 2nd last start, he can capitalise.

 PLAYFUL MISS (2)
was runner-up to WESTERN ACTION three starts back when setting the speed and grabbed in the closing stages. Tackling the same two races since, she was 3rd in the same race last time after being shuffled three back from gate 1. Early speed assists her claims.

 JIMMY JOYCE (1)
fired off the arm to set the tempo last time out and was trying to fend them off when runner-up to AMERICAN BOULEVARD. From the gate, he has early options.

 GOODOLBOYSANDBEER (10)
is second up for the new stable following a handy effort when resuming. Sent forward from gate 3 over the Redcliffe 2040, he was collared in the last stride and can join in here.

SELECTIONS: WESTERN ACTION (3), PLAYFUL MISS (2), JIMMY JOYCE (1), GOODOLBOYSANDBEER (10)
 SUGGESTED BET:

RACE SEVEN

Taking benefit from her last start when returning from a spell, THE MAHARANI (1) will also appreciate a return to the front line after starting from outside the second line in the first up assignment. With good speed off the arm, she has the gate to dictate.

 CAPTAIN NEMO (8)
was trying to make ground wide off the track last start as JEFFCOATE was able to fend them all off. Under 5m from the winner two starts back when making a closing play, he can stalk the speed here and if hitting gaps with momentum, can issue a challenge.

 ROSTOVA (9)
impressed first up with a sustained run from back in the pack to claim victory at 2138. Three-wide for a long way last start, saved for one run can see her bounce back.

 SCRUFFY (5)
was forced to park last start at Redcliffe and was still fighting when 6m from the winner MARDIBRINGSAPARTY. He can be thereabouts in this line up.

SELECTIONS: THE MAHARANI (1), CAPTAIN NEMO (8), ROSTOVA (9), SCRUFFY (5)
 SUGGESTED BET:
THE MAHARANI (1) to win

RACE EIGHT

Tackling a mare’s qualifier last time out, SWEET DIOR (2) set the speed and was best of the rest behind COOL AND CLASSY which pulled clear in the latter stages. Dictating in front the start prior at the mile, she finds the gate to pounce on the poles, the only query is the 2138 trip.

 LANAI (9)
was beaten by gate 6 last start when snagging back and then unable to get warm in the latter stages at the mile. Setting the tempo at Redcliffe the start prior over 2280 and in for the fight when 3m from the winner CHARGE AHEAD, saved for one shot can see him challenge.

 HOT ROD HARRY (4)
was sent to the post as fav here last week when forcing the issue early to take control. Reeled in over the closing stages when beaten a head, he has claims again.

 AURORA JOY (8)
has a good record at 2138 but rarely gets to race over the trip with most mare’s events at the mile. Back to Tues grade, with a soft trip, she can join in.

SELECTIONS: SWEET DIOR (2), LANAI (9), HOT ROD HARRY (4), AURORA JOY (8)
 SUGGESTED BET:
Exotics 2-4-8-9

RACE NINE

An even standing start event to close the card where QUADDIE VC (4) might just pinch this from the 10m. Making late metres last week when 7m from TYSON which was off the front tape, that was at the 13 furlongs and with this back to the middle trip should be more suitable.

 SEND IT (5)
was fresh up last week at the 2647 when starting off 20m and making a late play to be 8m astern of the winner TYSON. Excelling at the standing start conditions, the added fitness and dropping back to 2138 for this assignment can see him throw down a challenge.

 REGAZZO DI TILLY (6)
has placed in four of five attempts from the tapes and returns from a NSW trip where he was unplaced in four starts. With the right trip he can feature.

 FRANKIE FEROCIOUS (7)
last won five starts back as fav when tackling these same conditions from the same 30m handicap. Placed his next two before being unplaced behind LEAP TO FAME and SPEAK THE TRUTH, he must be considered.

SELECTIONS: QUADDIE VC (4), SEND IT (5), REGAZZO DI TILLY (6), FRANKIE FEROCIOUS (7)
 SUGGESTED BET:
